Si hay una frase famosa en tiempos difíciles esa es: “las crisis son oportunidades”, y en Venezuela durante al menos los últimos cinco años, en los que el país atravesó una ruda situación en cuanto a abastecimiento de productos alimenticios y de todo tipo y una altísima inflación, muchos empresarios aprovecharon para inundar los estantes de los comercios con cientos de productos importados, algunos de ellos no se estaban fabricando acá y otros eran mucho más baratos que los hechos en el país.

>*If there is a famous phrase in difficult times it is: "crises are opportunities", and in Venezuela during at least the last five years, when the country went through a tough situation in terms of supply of food and all kinds of products and a very high inflation, many businessmen took the opportunity to flood the shelves of stores with hundreds of imported products, some of them were not being manufactured here and others were much cheaper than those made in the country.*

Actualmente la situación económica ha ido mejorando en Venezuela pero siguen llegando muchos artículos importados, quizás para aprovechar nichos en los que los productos nacionales son todavía marcadamente más costosos, uno de ellos es el que les expongo en esta publicación: el chocolate.

Como millones de personas me encanta el chocolate y lo consumo con frecuencia, siempre estoy atenta a las novedades y de un tiempo para acá me di cuenta que en muchos comercios ha habido una especie de invasión de golosinas provenientes de Turquía, ese para nosotros lejano país ubicado entre Europa y Asia.

Estoy al tanto de que Venezuela tiene desde hace tiempo varios convenios con este país en diferentes áreas y supongo que muchos empresarios del sector privado venezolano vieron oportunidades de negocio en este nicho. No sólo se venden estos productos al detal, en la mayoría de las tiendas también las comercializan al mayor.

Por supuesto que después de ver mucho, decidí comer, probar algunos de estos chocolates y algunas galletas para ver qué tal eran.

Lo primero que noté es que sus precios son bastante accesibles, por ejemplo un chocolate de 50 gr cuesta en promedio 3,00 Bs, unos $ 0,40 aproximadamente según la tasa actual del dólar. Esta es sin duda una gran ventaja que tienen estos productos si los comparamos con los chocolates venezolanos, los cuales en promedio cuestan los 50 gr unos 8,00 Bs, es decir $ 1, más del doble que los turcos.

>*The first thing I noticed is that their prices are quite affordable, for example a 50 gr chocolate costs on average 3.00 Bs (Bolívares), about $ 0.40 approximately according to the current dollar rate. Ahora bien, ¿cuál es la calidad de estos chocolates? Debo decir que me dediqué a probar muchos, para así estar digamos calificada para dar una opinión.

Varios de ellos me gustaron, como indico bajo algunas fotos, pero en los demás el sabor a cacao es bajo. Como muchos saben el cacao venezolano es de los mejores del mundo y lo mismo pasa con los chocolates fabricados acá, así que la mayoría de nosotros tenemos altos estándares en cuanto a este producto, pienso que sabemos reconocer un buen chocolate.

As many of you know Venezuelan cocoa is one of the best in the world and the same happens with the chocolates made here, so most of us have high standards regarding this product, I think we know how to recognize a good chocolate.*

¿Qué diferencia a un buen chocolate? Sin duda los ingredientes, un buen chocolate sólo tiene tres: pasta de cacao, manteca de cacao y azúcar, con variaciones como la leche si es chocolate con leche y adiciones como los frutos secos (maní, almendras, avellanas), etc.

>*What differentiates a good chocolate? Undoubtedly the ingredients, a good chocolate only has three: cocoa mass, cocoa butter and sugar, with variations such as milk if it is milk chocolate and additions such as nuts (peanuts, almonds, hazelnuts), etc.*

Cuando compro un chocolate me fijo en eso y todos los chocolates turcos que probé según sus etiquetas contienen aceite de palma u otros aceites vegetales, lecitina, vainilla, entre otras cosas, lo que hace pensar que su porcentaje de cacao es bajo, supongo que por lo costosa que es esta materia prima, importada para ellos, usan poco cacao y nada de manteca de cacao y completan la receta con otros ingredientes, entonces el sabor del chocolate en algunos casos se pierde o no es muy intenso.

>*When I buy a chocolate I look at that and all the Turkish chocolates I tasted according to their labels contain palm oil or other vegetable oils, lecithin, vanilla, among other things, which makes me think that their percentage of cocoa is low, I guess because of how expensive this raw material is, imported for them, they use little cocoa and no cocoa butter and complete the recipe with other ingredients, then the chocolate flavor in some cases is lost or is not very intense.*

No quiero decir en esta publicación que en Turquía no se elaboren buenos chocolates, seguro que los hay, pero supongo que los empresarios han traído al mercado venezolano opciones más económicas para competir con los chocolates venezolanos que cuestan el doble.

>*I don't want to say in this post that Turkey doesn't produce good chocolates, for sure there are some, but I suppose that businessmen have brought to the Venezuelan market cheaper options to compete with Venezuelan chocolates that cost twice as much.*

Además del precio mucho más bajo, otra cosa que les da ventaja entre los consumidores es la variedad que ofrecen, eso llama mucho la atención. Hay chocolates con muchas combinaciones: con cereales, frutas, caramelo, frutos secos, café, galletas y un largo etcétera, aunque en algunos casos no son tal, por ejemplo dice que tiene avellanas o almendras pero al comerlo no consigues ninguna y ves la etiqueta y en realidad es sólo sabor artificial.

Por otro lado los chocolates más populares de Venezuela como Savoy, se consiguen en cualquier parte pero no ofrecen mucha variedad, mientras que los que fabrican cientos de marcas artesanales que han surgido los últimos años en todo el país que sí tienen más variedad de combinaciones, no están en cualquier tienda, entonces comprar una barra es más difícil, hay que adquirirlos por redes sociales o preguntar si están en alguna tienda.

No sé qué pasará en el futuro con los chocolates turcos que han irrumpido en el mercado local, quizá se mantengan, puede que desaparezcan o que lleguen otros de mejor calidad. Al investigar un poco sobre cuáles son los rubros más importados por el país, no me sorprendió encontrar unas cifras de febrero de este año de la Asociación de Agentes de Carga y Aduana de Venezuela (Asocav) que dicen que fueron los refrescos y las golosinas, es bastante evidente cuando te asomas por cualquier tienda.

En conclusión: me gustó hacer esta cata, ¡probar golosinas foráneas siempre es divertido! Y te aporta conocimientos. En este caso prefiero los chocolates venezolanos aunque cuesten más. Espero les haya parecido interesante mi experiencia.
