Aside from practicing my profession, one of the other things I wanted to accomplish when I finished college and started looking for a job was to be able to raise money to travel. I worked in something different from my field until a couple of years after graduating I got a job in my career, communication, which allowed me to start saving to fulfill that dream. >*Aparte de ejercer mi profesión, otra de las cosas que quería conseguir cuando terminé la universidad y empecé a buscar empleo, era poder reunir dinero para viajar. I had chosen Argentina as a destination and months before I was researching on the Internet about costs, places, etc., and so I put together my own guide in Word, which I printed to take with me. And why did I choose that country? Well, for several reasons, first because I wanted to know something of the south of the continent, then because I have always supported that team in the soccer World Cup, I like Argentine rock, and although it seems silly, those things made me curious to see how it was. >*Pasé más de un año reuniendo dinero para poder hacer un gran viaje al exterior cuando tuviera vacaciones. We took a cab and in about half an hour we arrived at the hotel that I had previously gotten on the Internet and where they had reserved the room for me without asking me to pay anything in advance. This accommodation was in a rather old but well-preserved building, it was inexpensive and well located, on Belgrano Avenue. >*El vuelo salió de Maiquetía (aeropuerto que sirve a Caracas) por la noche, era sin escalas, así que en aproximadamente 8 horas, tocamos suelo argentino en Ezeiza, eran como las 5:00 de la mañana. Este alojamiento estaba en un edificio bastante antiguo pero conservado, era económico y bien ubicado, por la Av. My intention was to leave immediately to explore, I didn't want to waste any time, and that was the first discussion we had 😂, because she wanted to rest a bit and I wanted to start my travel itinerary with almost military discipline. At about 8:00 in the morning we went out for breakfast, the hotel also included it, but not in their facilities but in a nearby cafe, which by the way was in a street called Venezuela. They gave us some tickets and we showed them there, the breakfast was something typical Argentinean: the mediaslunas (croissants), orange juice and coffee or tea. >*Nos instalamos en la habitación, me cambié de ropa y le dije a mi mamá que hiciera lo mismo. Mi intención era salir inmediatamente a explorar, no quería perder nada de tiempo, y esa fue la primera discusión que tuvimos 😂, porque ella quería descansar un poco y yo quería empezar mi itinerario de viaje con disciplina casi militar. Como a las 8:00 de la mañana salimos a desayunar, el hotel también lo incluía, pero no en sus instalaciones sino en un café cercano, que por cierto quedaba en una calle llamada Venezuela. What were my first impressions? This city is more than vibrant and caught me immediately, besides, the reputation of its inhabitants, "the porteños", as conceited, didn't seem real to me, throughout the days everyone treated us very well, with great sympathy. >*Nos fuimos hasta allá caminando, es así como logras captar la personalidad de un lugar, las calles son ideales para eso. ¿Cuáles fueron mis primeras impresiones? My mom sometimes complained about this marathon 😅, but like me, she also loves walking, of course to move around we also used public transport, especially the "Subte" (Subway) and a cab a couple of times when it got very late and we were exhausted. I continue then with more places we went through, such as the imposing Congress of the Argentine Nation. >*Volviendo al recorrido, en total nuestra estadía en la ciudad duró 10 días, en los que caminamos muchas horas cada jornada. Mi mamá a veces se quejaba de esta maratón 😅, pero como a mí, también le encanta caminar, claro que para movernos usamos además el transporte público, sobre todo el "Subte" (Metro) y algún taxi un par de veces cuando se nos hizo muy tarde y estábamos agotadas. My mom wasn't very convinced, but she liked it. >*Aunque no estaba anotado en mi itinerario, cerca de allí nos topamos con el Museo de la Ciudad, y como me gustan los museos y la entrada era accesible, no dudé en entrar. Mi mamá no estaba muy convencida, pero le gustó.* <center></center> I loved the exhibition they had at that time, it was everything related to radio broadcasting in Argentina, history, anecdotes and also the devices that were used in the past in the houses to listen to the radio and play music. >*La exposición que tenían en ese momento me encantó, era todo lo relacionado a la radiodifusión en Argentina, historia, anécdotas y también los aparatos que se usaban antiguamente en las casas para escuchar radio y reproducir música.* <center></center> After that we took a break to have lunch, we had lunch wherever the time and hunger took us, and for dinner, we usually bought things at the supermarket like yogurts, bread, cheese, etc, to save a little. What I ate the most those days were pizzas, pastas and alfajores, the most popular sweet of the country, which is like a cookie, filled with caramel spread and covered with chocolate, and you will say, didn't you eat the famous Argentine barbecue? Well no, because I'm almost vegetarian, I only eat fish and seafood as animal protein, but my mom did eat meat and she confirmed that it was delicious. Ok, we continued walking and arrived at Puerto Madero, the most modern and expensive neighborhood of Buenos Aires with its spectacular architectural work over La Plata River, the Women's Bridge. >*Luego de eso hicimos una pausa para ir a comer, almorzábamos donde nos agarraba la hora y el hambre, y para la cena, por lo general comprábamos cosas en el supermercado como yogures, pan, queso, etc, para ahorrar un poco. Lo que más comí esos días fueron pizzas, pastas y alfajores, el dulce más popular del país, que es como una galleta, rellena de dulce de leche y cubierta con chocolate, y ustedes dirán, ¿no comiste el famoso asado argentino? Pues no, porque soy casi vegetariana, de proteína animal sólo consumo pescados y mariscos, pero mi mamá sí comió carne y me confirmó que estaba buenísima. Ok, seguimos caminando y llegamos a Puerto Madero, el barrio más moderno y caro de Buenos Aires con su espectacular obra arquitectónica sobre el Río de La Plata, el Puente de la Mujer.* <center></center> <center><sub>Women's Bridge, Puerto Madero / Puente de la Mujer, Puerto Madero</sub></center> <hr> Inaugurated in 2001, this pedestrian bridge designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, imitates in its forms a couple dancing tango, I found it a beauty. I saw that there was a restaurant and I didn't want to miss the opportunity for her to try it, at first she was reluctant because she doesn't trust raw fish, but then she liked it. Also the experience was more complete because you had to sit on the floor, the table had some pillows around it for that, in the traditional Japanese way, which I loved because I hadn't experienced it, and of course, the dishes were delicious, too bad I didn't take pictures there. >*Una cosa importante que pasó aquí, fue que mi mamá comió sushi por primera vez. Vi que había un restaurante y no quise perder la oportunidad de que ella lo probara, al principio estaba reacia porque no confía en el pescado crudo, pero luego le gustó. When you enter you are transported to another era, the atmosphere is very elegant, just like the clothes of the people who serve you. >*Este legendario lugar existe desde 1858 y por allí ha pasado mucha gente de la cultura argentina y foránea, y claro, se ha convertido en un punto turístico imperdible de la ciudad. Al entrar te transportas a otra época, el ambiente es muy elegante, igual que la vestimenta de las personas que te atienden.* <center></center> We spent a very pleasant time there having a delicious coffee and then visiting some of its areas, such as the stage where tango and jazz artists perform, a lot of antiques decorate the whole place. >*Pasamos un rato muy agradable allí tomando un rico café y luego conociendo algunas de sus áreas, como la tarima donde se presentan artistas del tango y jazz, un montón de antigüedades decoran todo el lugar.* <center></center> The exploration continued and we ended up at a place called La Manzana de Las Luces (The Block of Lights), and we entered through there to a beautiful courtyard where a store selling semi-precious stones caught our attention, there were a lot of them, and I bought some to take as a gift to my sister who loves them. >*La exploración continuó y fuimos a parar a un sitio llamado La Manzana de las Luces, y entramos por allí hacia a un hermoso patio donde nos llamó la atención una tienda que vendía piedras semipreciosas, había un montón, y compré algunas para llevarlas de regalo a mi hermana que le encantan.* <center></center> <center><sub>My mom in The Block of Lights / Mi mamá en La Manzana de Las Luces</sub></center> <hr> In the days that followed our pace didn't slow down, rather it increased 😁, because there were still several places to visit and little time left, so the walks didn't stop. By the way, about 4 months before this trip, my mom had fractured a bone near her little toe, and the doctor had told her that exercising would strengthen that part, so when she fought with me about the long walks, I reminded her of that and she calmed down. >*En los días que siguieron nuestro ritmo no bajó, más bien aumentó 😁, porque aún quedaban varios sitios por conocer y poco tiempo, así que las caminatas no pararon. Por cierto, unos 4 meses antes de este viaje, mi mamá se había fracturado un hueso cerca del dedo chiquito del pie, y el médico le había dicho que hacer ejercicio le fortalecería esa parte, así que cuando peleaba conmigo por las largas caminatas, yo le recordaba eso y se calmaba.* <center></center> <center><sub>Monument "Song to Work", San Telmo / Monumento "Canto al Trabajo", San Telmo</sub></center> <hr> The Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve was another of the spots I included in my list, I always look for nature wherever I go and this is an area that isolates you a bit from the hustle and bustle of the big city, even though you can see the big buildings in the distance. >*La Reserva Ecológica Costanera Sur fue otro de los puntos que incluí en mi lista, siempre busco naturaleza a donde quiera que vaya y esta es un área que te aísla un poco del bullicio de la gran ciudad, aunque a lo lejos veas las grandes edificaciones.* <center></center> We bought a few things to eat and drink and went to spend the morning there. Many people come here to spend a different time, to exercise, picnic and other recreational activities, we were there until about 2:00 in the afternoon. >*La Costanera Sur tiene una superficie de 350 hectáreas y es el espacio verde más grande de Buenos Aires, donde puedes observar la flora y fauna autóctona en medio de la ciudad. Mucha gente viene aquí a pasar un momento diferente, a hacer ejercicios, picnic y otras actividades recreativas, nosotras estuvimos allí como hasta las 2:00 de la tarde.* <center></center> And well, then we returned to the crazy rhythm of the city, in the heart of downtown, to visit the very busy Florida Street, which has everything for shopping. Although during those days we also went to some malls or "shoppings" as they are called here, such as Galerías Pacífico and Abasto, I liked this pedestrian street better to see stores because it is a more native commercial space than the U.S. mall-style buildings that have proliferated all over the world. >*Y bueno, luego regresamos al loco ritmo de la ciudad, al pleno centro, para conocer la muy transitada Calle Florida, que tiene de todo para hacer compras. It is really very impressive, when we went there the day was super sunny and it was shining very bright. We saw it open because of the time it was, but we were told that at night the hydraulic system it has makes it close, as happens in nature with some of them. >*En este parque está instalada una escultura metálica en forma de flor, su nombre es Floralis Genérica y tiene una altura de 20 metros. De verdad es muy impresionante, cuando fuimos el día estaba súper soleado y brillaba muchísimo. Buena vuelta se pegaron jajaja. La ciudad es muy linda para ir a pasear, incluso nosotros que vivimos cerca la usamos con fines turísticos. Creo que viste todo lo más lindo que había para ver, incluso cosas que yo no vi como el Museo de Ciencias Naturales, ni sé donde queda jajaja.
