Right now my bushes are mostly dormant, but I can see signs of life around the corner. I see some buds forming on the ends of the branches and soon some bell shaped flowers will open up and give my mason bees a good pollen and food source. In return the mason bees will pollinate the flowers and give me a successful fruit set.

It really seems like when I introduced my bees to these bushes my yield doubled, but its also possible these plants are now in their prime producing many berries every year. These bushes are almost seven years old now, when I got them they were no more than two feet tall and now they are as tall as me.

We got so many berries last year we have yet to use them all up from the previous year. I have a little bag of berries left over from last years harvest, so we are now getting to the point with four bushes that it gives us enough berries to eat for the entire year until next harvest.

I noticed a few years back they were curving towards the sun, we had some large trees growing next to them blocking out some of the light. So curious to see now those large trees are gone if these bushes will go back to growing straight up. And maybe the plants will do better getting more sunlight now as well.

Over the last few years the older growth of the bush has been hardening up and forming some sturdy branches. Though a branch was broken on one of them when taking down some large trees on my property. I tried soaking the cuttings in water using my bubbler but unfortunately they did not make it. Was hoping to get some rooted cuttings and start some new bushes.

Part of the Rabbiteye high bush variety they will get pretty tall, up to about fifteen feet from what I have read. So if that's the case these will double in height from what they are now. When compared to the wild blueberry plants found up north that are "low bush" only get a foot or so tall. The buds from this plant should be opening soon, its around that time of year everything is waking up. So just a matter of time now.
