I have been a little absent these days, the truth is that my UPS battery has failed, and I have spent a good part of the week checking the UPS and doing battery maintenance. With the failure problems and several power outages that we have daily, working without UPS can end in damage to the computer. Which is not something I can afford right now. I plan to make a publication on the subject, but the work requires a lot of attention, we will be working with sulfuric acid and the vapors are very harmful if they are breathed, and the damage it can cause if it falls on the skin is making me reconsider if to share or not about work. On this occasion I have been repairing a videoconference camera, which is several years old, it worked very well, but the materials with which it was manufactured were not of the best quality.  The USB connector was affected by moisture, and ended up oxidizing. There's no way to hook this up to a computer without the rust eventually damaging the rest of the equipment.  I have several options for the repair: I use a connection from a recycled cable, or I can use a replacement connector that is usually sold at electronic parts sales.  I had a spare connector left, it was left over from previous purchases for other services. It is disarmed by applying a small pressure between the covers.  I cut off the damaged connector, leaving enough wire to remove the protective covering from the wire. The reason is very simple: In numerous repairs and restorations, I find myself in the situation that the color code is not respected, so I have to verify which color goes in each position.  I have disassembled computer mice or keyboards of the same brand and the distribution or order of the colors of the cables was different between the two. So if I have the original part, I copy which color goes in each position. <center>  </center> It is better to clean the tip of the wire, apply solder paste and apply solder to the tips of the wires before soldering it to the connector, if you apply too much heat for a long time while doing the soldering, you will end up destroying the connector.   The repair was simple, just apply a bead of hot glue inside the covers or secure with a zip tie, and it's not hard to think it's the original connector, it looks great.  A small annex, @yennysferm71, had asked me in the previous publication if the plug or connector of some headphones could be changed. I was looking for some headphones to repair, but I didn't have any at the moment. I did have spare parts for various types of connectors, so I'll try to explain the basics, what is needed to be able to put the replacement connector on headphones. It is a repair, in part, quite simple.  Replacement connectors come in different qualities, according to the cost that we are willing to pay. This is an average use one, it comes apart with a little twist. The tip of the connector is the positive of the right earphone (1, I highlighted it in blue in the image) the center connection is the positive of the left earphone (2) it goes to the second connection of the plug, and the negative of the plug is the one marked as the third number.  What I recommend is that they take the damaged plug and measure continuity to find out which cable goes in each position, as I said before, sometimes the color code is not respected and you save trouble when doing the repair. The only part that makes the repair a bit complex is the work with the headphone cable. Take for example a damaged telephone headset, and I exposed the wires outside the protective cover.  It takes a bit more practice to do this soldering, on these wires.  You may need to have thinner solder, and solder paste, but in the end you're better off using whatever you're most comfortable with.  It is a very thin wire, you must apply solder paste to the tip, heat it with the soldering iron and apply the solder on the wire, not on the soldering iron.  That the heat in the cable melts the solder, do not melt the solder to apply it to the cable, that is not going to look good. It takes practice to make good welds, and on this type of cable, it's something that requires a little bit of diligence and patience. I highly recommend practicing soldering before doing a repair on a piece of equipment.  As I always remind you, if you are going to do any electronic or electrical repair, it is better that you take a basic training course. He estado un poco ausente estos días, la verdad es que la batería de mi UPS ha fallado y he pasado buena parte de la semana revisando el UPS y haciendo el mantenimiento de la batería. Con los problemas por fallas y varios cortes de servicio eléctrico que tenemos a diario, trabajar sin UPS puede terminar en daño al computador. Lo que no es algo que pueda permitirme en estos momentos. Tengo pensado hacer una publicación sobre el tema, pero el trabajo requiere de mucha atención, estaremos trabajando con ácido sulfúrico y los vapores si se respiran son muy dañinos, además, el daño que puede ocasionar si cae sobre a piel, me están haciendo replantearme si comparto o no sobre el trabajo. En esta ocasión he estado reparando una cámara para videoconferencia, que tiene ya varios años, funciono muy bien, pero los materiales con los que se fabricó no eran de la mejor calidad.  El conector USB fue afectado por la humedad, y termino por oxidarse. No hay manera de conectar esto a un computador sin que el óxido termine por dañar el resto del equipo.  Tengo varias opciones para la reparación: Usar una conexión de un cable reciclado, o puedo usar un conector de repuesto que se vende generalmente en las ventas de repuestos electrónicos.  Me quedaba un conector de repuesto, era sobrante de compras anteriores para otros servicios. Se desarma aplicando una pequeña presión entre las cubiertas.  Corto el conector dañado, dejando suficiente cable como para poder retirar la cubierta de protección del cable. El motivo es muy sencillo: En gran cantidad de reparaciones y restauraciones, me encuentro en la situación que no se respeta el código de colores, así que tengo que verificar que color va en cada posición.  He desarmado ratones de computador o teclados de una misma marca y la distribución o el orden de los colores de los cables era diferente entre ambos. Por lo que si tengo la parte original copio que color va en cada posición. <center>  </center> Es mejor limpiar la punta del cable, aplicar pasta para soldar y aplicar soldadura al las puntas de los cables antes de soldarlo en el conector, si se aplica mucho calor por tiempo sostenido al hacer la soldadura, terminas por destruir el conector.   La reparación fue simple y solo queda aplicar una gota de silicona caliente dentro de las cubiertas o asegurar con una abrazadera plástica, y no es difícil pensar que es el conector original, tiene muy buen aspecto.  Un pequeño anexo, @yennysferm71, me había preguntado en la anterior publicación si se podían cambiar el plug o conector de unos audífonos. Estuve buscando algunos audífonos para reparar, pero no tenía ninguno en estos momentos. Si tenía repuestos para varios tipos de conector, así que trataré de explicar lo básico, que se necesita para poder colocar el conector de repuesto en unos audífonos. Es una reparación, en parte, bastante simple.  Los conectores de repuesto, vienen en diferentes calidades, de acuerdo al costo que estemos dispuestos a pagar. Este es uno de uso promedio, se desarma con un pequeño giro. La punta del conector es el positivo del audífono derecho (1, lo remarqué en azul en la imagen) la conexión central es el positivo del audífono izquierdo (2) va a la segunda conexión del plug, y el negativo del plug es el marcado como el tercer número.  Lo que recomiendo es que tomen el plug dañado y midan continuidad para saber qué cable va en cada posición, como dije antes, algunas veces no se respeta el código de colores y te ahorras problemas al hacer la reparación. La única parte que hace un poco complejo la reparación es el trabajo con el cable de los audífonos. Tome para el ejemplo unos audífonos dañados de teléfono, y expuse los cables fuera de la cubierta de protección.  Lleva algo más de práctica hacer esta soldadura, en estos cables.  Es posible que necesites tener soldadura más delgada, y pasta para soldar, pero al final es mejor que uses lo que te haga sentir más cómodo.  Es un cable muy delgado, se le debe aplicar pasta para soldar en la punta, calentarla con el soldador y aplicar la soldadura sobre el cable, no sobre el soldador.  Que el calor en el cable derrita la soldadura, no derritas la soldadura para aplicarla en el cable, eso así no va a quedar bien. Se requiere práctica, para hacer buenas soldaduras, y en este tipo de cable, es algo que requiere de aplicarse un poco y paciencia. Recomiendo mucho practicar la soldadura antes de hacer una reparación en un equipo.  Como siempre les recuerdo, si van a hacer alguna reparación en electrónica o en electricidad, es mejor que tomen un curso de capacitación básica. Eviten accidentes o eviten dañar lo que quieren reparar. <br><br> Que tengan una excelente semana. Paz.  He usado el traductor de Google para el idioma inglés. Estas reparaciones son totalmente satisfactorias jaja. Me gusta que puedas arreglar las cosas que la gente normal como yo tiraría sin más :p. Que bueno que pudiste recuperar ese USB, se veía bastante mal pero con el reemplazo quedó como nuevo. Y la soldadura en esos pequeños cablecitos, seguramente requiere mucho pulso y habilidad.
