Just a few days ago I was talking about the principles of searching and catching a zander in the late autumn [Zander in the late autumn](https://geos.io/ru--govosnalkey/@spinner/ru-sudak-pozzdnej-osenxyu). The situation described in that publication is typical for almost all reservoirs where this fish is found. But are there exceptions to such rules? Of course there are...

Just this year, Dimka and I faced a similar case. We went into one of the flowing Volga bays to catch Pike.  The depth in the bay is 2.7-3.5 meters, but there is a expressed channel, in which the depth of places reaches 5 meters. They stood on the point that was on the top of this riverbed. This point allowed to catch in detail a number of snags, located on a watering.
 Pike was biting, and we caught 3 good copies. And then I decided to make one of the cast directly into the channel. What was my surprise when there was a bite in the ditch and I pulled out the zander. Let small, a little more than 1 kilogram (the first photo).But we didn't expect him here at all. Water 7 degrees, and on all signs the pike perch now should stick to the big depths, circling around a flock of bream. While I was on the fish, Dimka also made a cast in the riverbed. And also after a clear bite caught a pike perch, but already a little larger than the first. (Photo 2). 
As there was no more biting, we have decided to pass on a riverbed and to see, what has attracted here Sudakov.  We had the idea that a flock of stern fish came into the bay, and this version was completely confirmed. Right in the middle of the riverbed we saw a large small fish in the echo sounder. Now it is clear that it is able to pull the pike perch from the big depths on the relative shallow water in late autumn. Food... Behind it the predator is ready to follow even on the not characteristic for time of the year places.

A similar case occurred with the guys from Stalingrag Fishers Team. They left in December last year to catch a zanders at great depths. The whole thing was pretty good. And then they shifted to shallow waters, hoping to find a asp there. And found all of the same Zander, and even decent size...

I'm pretty sure that if the guys walked on the point with the sounder, they would probably see the flocks of small fodder fish that served food and the asp, and the zander, who made the white predator compete. Food rules the World))))
