Building engagement

SPinvest is a tokenized investment fund/club for all users of social blockchains. Everyone is welcome! On our never-ending mission to help build some engagement on the HIVE blockchain, SPinvest has been thinking of different ways to get people involved. Now, there are a few ways to get people interacting with each but the balance of your wallet dictates which options are best available to use.

The best way to get post engagement is to...

Give something away for free (works very well)
Be a HIVE whale or top witness (works very well)
Be part of a jerk circle (works ok)
Produce shit posts but lots of them (works ok)
Produce good content and hope people see it (not good but persistence helps)

Some people might not agree with that but after hosting literally hundreds of "community" projects/contests ranging from simple daily giveaways to 13-week contests. I have also hosted group buys, money services, upvoting services and much more than I can remember and the one thing that works best is giving something away for free.

So, I have an idea for a contest we can host. In fact, im lying. I have a challenge for whoever wants to claim it. We can run this idea once are many times, it'll depend on whoever wants to step up and take lead over the project. Others are welcome to steal the idea, its nothing special and I'd rather see someone take the idea and do it themselves over it not being done at all. The goal is to build some engagement on HIVE between users so I don't care if SPinvest profits from it are not.

A few days back I came across a website that lets users produce custom t-shirts, mugs, hoodies etc. Your thinking to yourself, so what? that's not new but this one lets us pay with HIVE or HBD. Here's a [link](HiveSwag.io) to check it out yourself. Oh yes, this can only lead to one thing!

### T-shirt design Contests
I propose that we host a design contest with the end result of having a design that has been created and voted on by community members. We will create merchandise and list it for sale for a limited time. We host a new contest every 1-3 months and replace the last content winner design with the new one. People love art and design and I think a regular contest like this would do really well. Here's are a few bullets to show the break down of how such a contest would be ran. This is really just an example to show how but whoever takes the lead over this contest will be the one finalising off anything and of course, my support and input is always available when needed.

### 4-week Contest
**Day 1** - Release the contest post with all the details included
**Day 2-14** - Collect design entries from users taking part
**Day 15-17** - 3-day vote to keep 50% of the top voted on designs to move onto level 2
**Day 18-21** - Remaining designs will get 4 days to make any adjustments are tweaks to their design
**Day 22-28** - 1-week community vote to select a winner
**Day 29** - Contest winner post uploaded with 3 winners

Upload the design to the website and start selling it. I would also suggest that the winner of the design get a royalty of 20-50% on any sales of their design but that fine details for later if we can find someone to host this for SPinvest.

I think there is some incentive incompatibility issue when it comes to comment. Comment does not directly relate to rewards and people are less likely to vote on a comment under a post.  So if the reward system can somehow differentiate votes on comment from votes on post and weighs the votes on comment a bit more since people are not only blindly voting the posts but also engaging with it, that would be one solution.

Engagement is something that is lacking on Hive because of the numbers.

I dont think Hive is any worse than, say, Youtube.  Yes there are a lot of comments on there but look at the number of accounts.  The same is true with Reddit.  There are over 300 million users on that platform, so getting a dozen comments on a post isnt that much when you think about it.

I like the idea of different giveaways and projects to stimulate activity.  It isnt easy to come up with ideas as you know.
