This question is for last week but I will like to still make an entry to it. It is quite an interesting question and a chance to speak about your country.

First before moving on to the stereotype people have about my country, I will like to explain what stereotype is especially for those who may not know the meaning.


The meaning of stereotype to my understanding is a general thought or believe about something which could possibly be true or not. For instance when a woman get hurt by a man (could maybe she was cheated by her husband), and she begins to say all men her cheat. That action she has made has given a stereotype for all men because it is not totally true that all men are cheat for there are responsible ones also. I believe with my explanation it's easy to understand the meaning of stereotype.

Now let's us move to the question of the day: **WHAT KIND OF STEREOTYPES DO PEOPLE HAVE ABOUT YOUR COUNTRY?**

First, the country I am from is NIGERIA located in West Africa. There are different stereotype about this country and I will be willingly to share them with you.

**1. NIGERIANS ARE FRAUDSTERS/SCAMMERS**

This is no news to any Nigeria, in fact if any Nigerian is asked this question, this will be the first thing that will be said. Everywhere we go even outside the country, we are given the attitude of being a scammer when we mention we are Nigerians. 

Due to this stereotype, Nigeria has become popular as a scam country and so many online restrictions have been made against us. We are not allowed to use Spotify in our country, not allowed to receive money on PayPal, and many other restrictions. In fact, before I forget to mention, Nigeria is one of the countries that was banned by the USA government from allowing their citizens to visit the country.

I would say that there is no country that doesn't have a single scammer. Scammers are literally everywhere and can disguise to be from anywhere. They are hard to track and always very smart. We cannot just point that everyone in the country is a scammer. There are good/responsible people in this country and it hurts when I get this vibes of being a scammer or when I go over the internet to try out something and I see that it is not available to Nigerians while other countries are open to it.

**2. NIGERIANS ARE LAZY PEOPLE:** This is another stereotype that is quite annoying. Nigeria is tough country itself and what we face here, a lazy person can never survive it.

The struggle here knows no age. It begins right from the little kids who try hard to study well in classes right to the young men and ladies graduating from college and universities. 

There are little to no jobs available in this country, so every person survives on the trade or skills they learn because sitting at home in front of a computer sending Curriculum Vital (CV) and waiting for a call from a company to congratulate you over a job is close to a waste of time.

We are trained here to pick up something, a particular skill which could be barbing, making hair-do, sewing, electronic repairs, car repairs, computer skills or anything because they are what we will depend on to feed ourselves. Many Nigerians have learned more than one skill to survive. 

Talking about myself, I play musical instrument to play for bands and parties, and also learnt some skills in repairing elevators. I am definitely not stopping there because I have plans to have more knowledge in computer, and repair of generators.

Now with what you have read, do you think Nigerians are Lazy?

**3. NIGERIANS ARE POOR PEOPLE:**

Indeed, the country might be poor which doesn't make all the people in Nigeria poor. We have rich people in Nigeria and they are people like **Aliko Dangote**, **Femi Otedola**, **Mike Adenuga**, **Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija**, and many more. Each of these Nigerians I have mentioned have a net worth of $1 billion dollar and above. 

So do you still think Nigerians are poor people?.
