Good Evening dear friends of Hive, today I want to share with you the wild part of Sardinia, which I had the pleasure of meeting this summer, during the vacation I spent there to visit my Companion's relatives. Having spent the holidays with my arm in plaster, the beaches and the sea weren't right for me, so we opted to explore the areas of natural and cultural interest.

Today I take you to a special place, in the heart of Wild Sardinia, near the small hometown of my partner, Laconi, in a boundless park, with free access to all (the important thing is to keep the gates closed and respect the environment. surrounding, after which, you can visit far and wide without problems). I'm talking about the Funtanamela Forest, a park that extends for about 1200 hectares, characterized by the presence of Mediterranean scrub and holm oak woods, where you can often meet animals such as the Sardinian or Corsican deer and the Sarcidano horse.

According to the information we collected, asking the local forest rangers, a population of about 100 wild horses lives in the park, called Cavalli del Sarcidano, which of the DNA analyzes carried out by the veterinary genetics laboratories of Milan and the Biology department of Sassari , have hypothesized the ancestry from the ancient Spanish horse that lived more than 20,000 years ago. Furthermore, a kinship was also found with the only surviving wild horse on our planet, the Equus Prewalski.
An ultra characteristic that places the Sarcidano horse, in an archaic model, is the presence of the seventh molar, present only on the fossils of ancient horses and disappeared in modern breeds.

Although we are used to the presence of people, it is not always obvious to have the good fortune of being able to admire them in the park, but with a little patience and walking without making too much noise, it is very likely that you can cross your path with these splendid animals, which they are to be considered almost living fossils.

That day we were lucky, thrilled to be able to see them so closely, we found a large group, about 20 specimens, who were standing in a small sheltered clearing, eating some shrubs. I'm sorry I wasn't able to take great quality photos, but I didn't get too close with my old phone, I was very excited and felt watched by 40 eyes at the same time, plus there was the stallion who seemed to say, beware of don't get too close. Both in order not to annoy the horses and not to endanger Giovanna, I limited myself to a few photos, to then step back and admire them from further away.

What an emotion! Even now, just because I'm talking about it and the memories resurface, I get goosebumps. I really love nature, when you can admire it free as it was centuries ago, before we began to devastate the planet, I think it is a unique fortune, which I hope is increasingly sought and protected by people. Because every year new animal species become extinct, most of the time due to man, but if we continue like this we will end up on the list sooner or later.

Buona Sera cari amici di Hive, oggi voglio condividere con voi l parte selvaggia della Sardegna, che ho avuto il piacere di conoscere quest'estate, durante la vacanza che ho trascorso li per far visita ai parenti della mia Compagna. Avendo passato le vacanze con il braccio ingessato, spiagge e mare non facevano proprio al caso mio, quindi abbiamo optato per esplorare le zone di interesse naturale e culturale.

Oggi vi porto in un luogo speciale, nel cuore della Sardegna Selvaggia, nei pressi del piccolo paese natale della mia compagna, Laconi, in un sconfinato parco, di libero accesso a tutti (l'importante è tenere chiusi i cancelli e rispettare l'ambiente circostante, dopo di che, si può visitare in lungo e largo senza problemi). Sto parlando della Foresta di Funtanamela, un parco che si estende per circa 1200 ettari, caratterizzato dalla presenza di macchia mediterranea e boschi di leccio, dove si possono spesso incontrare spesso animali come il Cervo Sardo o Corso e il Cavallo del Sarcidano.

Secondo le informazioni che abbiamo raccolto, chiedendo alle guardie forestali del luogo, nel parco vive una popolazione di circa 100 cavalli selvatici, chiamati Cavalli del Sarcidano, che delle analisi sul DNA effettuate dai laboratori di genetica veterinari di Milano e il dipartimento di Biologia di Sassari, hanno ipotizzato la discendenza dall'antico cavallo Spagnolo vissuto più di 20.000 anni fa. Inoltre è stata riscontrata una parentela anche con l'unico cavallo selvatico sopravvissuto sul nostro pianeta, l'Equus Prewalski.
Un'ultra caratteristica che colloca il cavallo del Sarcidano, ad un modello arcaico, è la presenza del settimo molare, presente solo sui fossili dei cavalli antichi e sparito nelle razze moderne.

Pur essendo abituati alla presenza di persone, non è sempre scontato aver la fortuna di poterli ammirare al parco, ma con un po' di pazienza e camminando senza fare troppo rumore, è molto probabile che possiate incrociare la vostra via con questi splendidi animali, che sono da considerare quasi dei fossili viventi.

Quel giorno siamo stati fortunati, emozionati a mille di poterli vedere così da vicino, abbiamo trovato un gruppo numeroso, circa 20 esemplari, che sostavano in una piccola radura riparata, mangiando qualche arbusto. Mi dispiace non essere riuscito a fare foto di grande qualità, ma non mi sono avvicinato troppo con il mio vecchio telefono, ero molto emozionato e mi sentivo osservato da 40 occhi contemporaneamente, in più c'era lo stallone che sembrava proprio dire, attento a non avvicinarti troppo. Sia per non infastidire i cavalli, che per non mettere in pericolo Giovanna, mi sono limitato a qualche foto, per poi indietreggiare ed ammirarli da più lontano. 

Ma che emozione! Ancora adesso, solo perchè ne sto parlando e riaffiorano i ricordi, mi viene la pelle d'oca. Amo davvero la natura, quando la riesci ad ammirare libera come era secoli fa, prima che iniziassimo a devastare il pianeta, penso sia una fortuna unica, che spero sia sempre più cercata e protetta dalle persone. Perchè ogni anno si estinguono nuove specie animali, il più dei casi a causa dell'uomo, ma se si continua così finiremo anche noi nella lista prima o poi.
