<h1>"Hollow World" Part 1</h1>_This is a series from a screenplay I wrote called Hollow World ® WGA June 2014._

<h3>FADE IN:</h3>

SUPER: October 28, 1990, OVER SOUTH POLE

<h3>EXT. SOUTH POLE - MID AIR - DAY</h3>

A Helicopter flies into view from behind, and continues flying straight ahead over vast open snow.


<h3>INT. HELICOPTER - SAME TIME</h3>

CARL flies Helicopter.

WOODY [28] A rugged explorer in Arctic gear, and

KELLY [29] an attractive young explorer in Arctic Gear sit with CREW MEMBERS.

A GIANT ICY hole comes into view. Everyone LOOKS in AMAZEMENT.

WOODY: That's IT! (pauses) Carl how close can you get us?

CARL: The ice is thin here.

Helicopter hovers over ice.

WOODY: Alright.. Get as close as you can.

CUT TO:

HELICOPTER sits on ICE as WHIRLING rotors come to a slow stop.

WOODY, KELLY, and CREW climb out of HELICOPTER.

WOODY and KELLY walk away from HELICOPTER.

CREW unloads equipment.

WOODY AND KELLY walk across ICE, and the SINKHOLE comes into view.

KELLY: This is incredible..

WOODY: (holding gps device) 90 degrees South Zero degrees West..This is IT!

CREW MEMBER #1 walks up with camera and tripod. He sets up a camera next to edge of cliff. He takes pictures of the hole.

SNOW GUSTS around them.

CREW MEMBER #1: You guys feel the wind coming from that?

KELLY: And it's building.. We better start packing up.

WOODY: Absolutely not.. I still need to take a core sample.

WOODY ruffles through an equipment case.

WOODY: (To CREW MEMBER #1) QUICK run back and grab the core sample case!

CREW MEMBER #1: Maybe she's right we need to go.

WOODY: No! This is our one shot and I'm not missing that because of a little wind..

KELLY: We need to LEAVE.

CREW MEMBER #1 runs out of the shot.

CUT TO:

Snow storm builds around them.

CRACK! KELLY SCREAMS.

Barely visible through snow KELLY is hanging on the edge.

Woody looks for her through thick snow gusting around him.

WOODY: KELLY! HANG ON!

He runs over to her and grabs her hand.

KELLY: Help me please!

He struggles for a moment, and then pulls her up.

They both stand up.

CRACK!

The ledge they are standing on breaks off and they fall into the hole.



<h3>EXT. HONG KONG - DAY - 2020</h3>

SUPER: 2020, OVER FUTURISTIC HONG KONG.

<h3>INT. CONFERENCE ROOM - AEROSPACE COMPANY- DAY</h3>

AUSTIN stands in front of a LARGE PROJECTOR SCREEN showing his latest VTOL flying vehicle concept. 3 OLD MEN in suits sit in leather chairs watching reluctantly.

AUSTIN: You see with the proper funding we can mass produce the LVX-3, and Hong Kong can be a model city for the rest of the world.

EXECUTIVE #1: It's not realistic to think we can make THAT big of a change.

AUSTIN: Well sir we need to make a change.. Our world is changing fast, and we have to make a change too or we will destroy our planet.

EXECUTIVE #1: I appreciate your passion kid, but it's not just that. Making that big of a change could cripple the auto industry not to mention the economy so I'm sorry, were not interested.

AUSTIN: Thank you.. I appreciate your time.

AUSTIN closes his laptop, and puts it in a bag.

He walks over and shakes all of their hands, and walks out of the room.



<h3>INT. LARGE AIRPORT - DAY</h3>

From first person view of SMART GLASSES ERIC [33] A short medium build man with a 5 o clock shadow is video chatting with his wife BETH [33] A modest looking middle aged woman.

ERIC: I hope this is the last time that I have to be away for awhile.

BETH: Don't worry baby.. At least your coming home now.

ERIC: I know I just miss you guys..

BETH: We miss you too so hurry up.

ERIC: Alright baby well I'm about to board the plane so I'll see you in the morning.

BETH: Okay baby I love you.

ERIC: I love you too.

CUT TO:

ERIC walks in waiting area. Takes off his glasses, and sits down. He glances around a crowded room and sees a little boy MICHAEL [5] ( A shy bright eyed young boy) walking away from his mom.

MICHAEL'S MOM: Michael NO.. Get over here right now.

She stands up and aggressively grabs MICHAEL'S arm and sits him down next to her.



<h3>INT. AIRPLANE CABIN - NIGHT</h3>

JESSICA [22] Slim attractive woman wearing a flight attendant uniform and ALEXIS [19] also slim and attractive wearing a flight attendants uniform walk up and down aisles checking seats.

JESSICA: How are you doing.. Feelin nervous?

ALEXIS: Kinda.

JESSICA: You'll do okay.

ALEXIS: (Smiling in relief) Thanks.



<h3>INT. FLIGHT DECK - NIGHT</h3>

KEVIN (44) A clean cut average height man and AUSTIN (22) An average height muscular clean cut young man sit in front of pilot controls.

KEVIN: Tower 7 this is Captain Kevin Brandt doing a final check for Flight 128.



<h3>INT. WAITING ROOM - AIRPORT - NIGHT</h3>

AIRPORT PA: Now loading passengers for Flight 128.

Passengers stand up and get in line. Attendant stands at door checking tickets.



<h3>INT. AIRPLANE CABIN - NIGHT</h3>

JESSICA and ALEXIS help passengers to their seats.

ERIC follows JESSICA to his seat.

JESSICA: Here's your seat sir.

ERIC: Thank you.

JESSICA walks away, and ERIC sits down in seat.

ALEXIS: Okay here are your seats.

LARRY (61) a small built weak older gentleman with glasses and KATELYN (59) A kind, sweet, smaller older woman stand at their seats.

KATELYN: Thank you.

ALEXIS: No problem mam.

LARRY puts bags in overhead, and they both sit in seats.

LARRY gives KATELYN the window seat.

ALEXIS: Let me know if you need anything.

ALEXIS smiles and walks away.

CUT TO:

JESSICA shows MICHAEL and his MOM to their seats.

JESSICA: (To MICHAELS MOM) He's so cute. (Then smiles at MICHAEL) What's your name?

MICHAEL: Michae..

MICHAEL'S MOM: (interrupting) Can you get me a pillow..

JESSICA: Yes mam.

JESSICA smiles at MICHAEL and walks away.

CUT TO:

ERIC sees lightning out of his window.



<h3>INT. AIRPLANE CABIN - NIGHT</h3>

JESSICA stands in front of all the passengers.

JESSICA: Please fasten your seat belts we are about to take off.

JESSICA walks behind a curtain.



<h3>INT. FLIGHT DECK - NIGHT</h3>

KEVIN and AUSTIN do a final check of all gauges.

JESSICA walks in.

JESSICA: The passengers are all in their seats, and the doors have been secured.

KEVIN: Thank you JESSICA. Please double check the doors, and you should strap in to. We're ready for take off.

JESSICA: Yes Captain Brandt.

JESSICA opens the door and walks out.

KEVIN: So how did the meeting go.

AUSTIN: Ahh you know.. No luck.

KEVIN: You got high hopes rook.

Through the window we see the plane pulling away from the loading zone. They pull around to the run way and start to take off.

KEVIN: Here we go.

He pulls back on control column.



<h3>EXT. AIRPORT RUNWAY - NIGHT</h3>

Airplane takes off.

STORM CLOUDS gather in the direction the airplane is flying.



<h3>INT. AIRPLANE CABIN - NIGHT</h3>

JESSICA V.O: The captain has turned off the fasten your seat belt sign. You are now free to move around the cabin.

Passengers take off seat belts, some stand up, and some rummage through their items.



<h3>INT. ATTENDANT STATION - AIRPLANE - NIGHT</h3>

JESSICA walks up to a table that has cups with ice in them.

ALEXIS walks in.

JESSICA: See what the passengers want, and I will start on these.

JESSICA pours a can of soda into cups.

ALEXIS: Ok.

ALEXIS walks out of the room.



<h3>INT. AIRPLANE CABIN - NIGHT</h3>

ALEXIS stands in aisle next to ERIC.

ALEXIS: Can I get you anything sir?

ERIC: A rum and coke please.

ALEXIS: No problem. Anything else?

ERIC: Actually I was wondering if it was cool if I used my glasses.

ERIC pulls out SMART GLASSES.

ERIC: Just to watch a movie or something.

ALEXIS: Honestly I'm new, but I don't see a problem. All these smart watches, smart glasses.. It's all the same right?

ERIC: (surprised) Yeah. Exactly.

ALEXIS: I'll be right back with that rum and coke.

ALEXIS walks up the aisle taking other passengers orders.

CUT TO:

First person view of SMART GLASSES. ERIC swipes through apps to movies.

ALEXIS V.O: Here's your rum and coke.

ERIC looks at ALEXIS with a movie playing faintly.

ERIC V.O: Wow that was fast.

ALEXIS hands ERIC drink.

ERIC V.O: Thanks.

ALEXIS: Those things are pretty awesome..

Does it ever make you dizzy?

ERIC V.O: It's better than having to hold up a screen all the time..

ALEXIS: Yeah that makes sense. (pauses) Well if you need anything let me know.

ERIC V.O: I appreciate it. Thank you.

ALEXIS smiles and then turns to LARRY and KATELYN handing them their drinks.

ERIC turns up the volume for his movie.



<h3>INT. CONTROL TOWER - NIGHT</h3>

CONTROL TOWER WORKER monitors a screen showing weather radar of a storm over the North Pole. He pushes microphone button.

CONTROL TOWER WORKER: FLIGHT 128 come in this is Control Tower.



<h3>INT. FLIGHT DECK - NIGHT</h3>

KEVIN looks at AUSTIN concerned, and then grabs the communicator.

KEVIN: This Captain Brandt. What's our status?



<h3>INT. CONTROL TOWER - NIGHT</h3>

CONTROL TOWER WORKER looks at the radar. He pushes the microphone button.

CONTROL TOWER WORKER: The weather is starting to look a little rough over the North Pole.. You should think about diverting.

He stares at the speaker for a moment, and then hears Kevin.

KEVIN V.O: That's a no can do.



<h3>INT. FLIGHT DECK - STORMY NIGHT</h3>

KEVIN and AUSTIN look out of the window at storm clouds all around them.

KEVIN: It's too late to turn back now..

CONTROL TOWER WORKER V.O: I'll alert Icelandic Air.

A MASSIVE WALL CLOUD comes into view out of the window.

KEVIN: We're gonna have to get under this thing.

AUSTIN: Lowest altitude is 1000 feet.

KEVIN: (URGENTLY) Put on the fasten your seat belt sign and CALL JESSICA!



<h3>INT. ATTENDANT STATION - SAME TIME</h3>

ALEXIS and JESSICA clean beverage station.. A red light blinks.

JESSICA: We need to get the passengers back in their seats. The captain needs me. I'll be right back.

ALEXIS: Ok.

ALEXIS walks out to passengers.

JESSICA: walks into the Flight Deck.



<h3>INT. FLIGHT DECK - STORMY NIGHT</h3>

JESSICA walks in.

AUSTIN is flipping switches.

KEVIN struggles to steer through thick storm clouds.

KEVIN: Jessica! (pauses) We might be landing this thing. I need you to make sure all of the passengers are

strapped in, and be ready for my next instructions.

JESSICA: Yes sir.

She quickly leaves.



<h3>INT. AIRPLANE CABIN - STORMY NIGHT</h3>

ALEXIS helps passengers sit down and strap in.

JESSICA walks from behind a curtain.

JESSICA: The captain has issued an emergency. Please EVERYONE stay seated and be prepared to take emergency actions.

JESSICA runs down the aisle as passengers start to panic.

She runs up to MICHAEL and kneels down next to him. His mom is in the bathroom.

JESSICA: Hey are you okay.. Where's your mom?

MICHAEL'S MOM: (walking up) What's happening!?

JESSICA: Mam I need you to sit down and put your seat belt on.

MICHAEL'S MOM: What's wrong? Are we CRASHING!?

JESSICA: Mam please fasten your seat belt. (pauses) Everything's going to be alright.

JESSICA pulls on Michael's seal belt tightening it. She stands up, and quickly walks to the attendant station.



<h3>INT. ATTENDANT STATION - SAME TIME</h3>

JESSICA is standing next to the flight attendants seats.

ALEXIS walks in.

ALEXIS: Are we going to crash!?

JESSICA: It's going to be okay.

ALEXIS sits in her chair. JESSICA helps her strap in.

ALEXIS: (terrified) No no no..

JESSICA: Alexis! Calm down. We're going to be OK.



<h3>EXT. AIRPLANE - MID AIR - STORMY NIGHT</h3>

KEVIN and AUSTIN stare straight ahead for a moment. They fly under the WALL CLOUD at a downward slope parallel to the ocean. Lightning and thunder BOOM all around the airplane.

A MASSIVE VORTEX comes into view.

AUSTIN: What the hell is that!?

KEVIN: (shocked) I have noo idea.



<h3>INT. AIRPLANE CABIN - STORMY NIGHT</h3>

The passengers start noticing out of the windows the VORTEX they are flying into as clouds and lighting WHIP around them and ERIC puts his SMART GLASSES on.

From first person view of SMART GLASSES ERIC records the VORTEX as it WHIRLS around a void that's emitting an aurora borealis. The light gets brighter as they get closer. OVER what appears and is MOUNTAINS we notice thick sand coming towards the airplane. Lights flicker inside the cabin and the storm ROARS.

BLACK OUT
