Steem Basic Income is a social experiment to bring a basic income to as many Steemians as possible. Members join by sponsoring others into the program. Steem Basic Income is delivered through providing regular upvotes to member content.

This is our official welcome article that we now use in the memo for welcoming new members. <h2> Value Balances and Upvote Delivery</h2>
One of the most confusing things for new members is our upvote delivery system. Since most things on Steem operate on a daily or per-post basis, our system of storing balance and then delivering 'on demand' when a minimum level is reached is counter-intuitive. This article includes a good overview including great visual infographics.

Finally, each SBI unit is effectively backed by some level of SP (between 1 and 2 SP).
