*This post gives an insight into the old rural tradition of sacrifice made during the durga Puja celebration. The sacrifice is made at the open temple premises on the outskirts of the village.* On the day of sacrifice the temple premises turns into a ***bloodshed*** ground with grass turning Red blod splashing everywhere. You can just feel for the poor animal, but this is how things have been going on since ages at rural area and people are not ready to make any kind of changes.  Our temple is one of the old structure, and located at a prime spot just outside village vicinity. Surrounded by green fields and open grounds, it uses to be perfect place for meditation or enjoying serenity of the atmosphere. People do visit this place around the year to worship daily. The place is completelly covered with green farming fields making it very attractive and peaceful place. However on the **9th** day of Durga Puja festival, the temple gets too crowded. People from all part of life especially male population comes at this place to offer prayers and making Goat sacrifices to worship Goddess Durga. This is a way to please the godess ***shakti***.  The 9 day of Durga puja festival end with sacricies to please the goddess. People make certain personal wishes and offer goat to Goddess Durga and sacrifice them in temple and later share and consume the mutton among themselves. This year it was a kind of rush at temple. It was a perfect bright day and clear sky accompanied by bright Sunny day. People were always in a rush to make their sacrifices and then run through the dsy for mutton preparation. It is not mandatory that everybody make their sacrifice. But people having some wishes make their offer to Goddess. While I was enjoying the green beauty surrounding me, there were many people already assembled in the premises with their Goats.  Once they reached temple they do some rituals and then lined up for making the sacrifice. However, many people like ***me*** visit the place just to watch the event. People wait patiently for their turn to come. Once the preparation is over it took a little time for the butcher to go through the slaughtering things. Another aspect of sacrifice is to offer only male goat. The best part in Villages is that they do not need to go long distances to buy goats. Local breed goat are easily available in Villages. With many homes keeping them only to sell during these times. Luckily I got some NSFW shot at correct time before this one goes under the blade.  The person who will be slaughtering these goats have a good 30 years of experince. He is doing this thing every year. So it doesn't took long for him in running through the process. The person has a special kind of **axe** with big Sharp blade. In between the process he made sure to clean and sharp the blade now and then. So that the slaughtering goes well. It is assumed to sacrifice in ***one shot***. And he seems to be master in it.  The man keep slaugteeing the goats like a lro one after the another. The people jsed to hold on the goats at the hook. Soon the field turn red with blood spots and dead goat all over the place.  The scene at the sacrifice sight is too scary. Sometimes hesrt goes out for thr poor animals. The entire place turns red. There was kind of hook, where the head were made to stuck and then the blade fall on the neck precisely to cut it in one shot. The sight was enough to tell you the number of sacrifices made at the spot what used to be a deserted look a while ago, turns bloody Red.  Once the sacrifice is made, people run through their home crossing the green fields back to their home. The remaining is quite tough and they under took them at homes. All the temple formalities were completed.  So this is a glimpse of the rural life, where people have age old belief that by sacrificing all their wishes were fulfilled. And many people assemble during the festival time to make their sacrifices. The 9th day is an auspicious day for many and that is how they prefer to celebrate. Yesr goes by, but this prsctices remain at the village forever. This is really heartbreaking! Such cruel tradition must be discontinued in the 21st century. We must respect all form of lives, and I am sure no god will be happy to see such bloodshed. There can't be **peace** in the world until we stop slaughter of animals for human use for any reason.
