Yesterday I decided to watch **Mad Max** again because hey why not ? it was a movie with full of action. Then I decided to write about this topic because Do you think madmax movie is going to be catch the same fabric and mood if they use futuristic materials in the movie instead of retrofuturistic ones ?
I doubt it and there were a lot of retrofuturistic elements in the movie eventhough it is pretty common to see those in 90 percent of the sci-fi's or postapocaliptic doomsday scenario movies like **Mad Max** or **Waterworld**. What is Retrofuturism ? and what is the purpose of this trend ? Lets have a wider look to the topic.

#### What is Retrofuturism ?

Don't get tricked by this fancy word basicly it is 2 concept you know. **Retro** and **Futurism**. Retro is pretty common style in these days and retro is basicly imitative style of the recent past. **Futurism** is also a way to anticipate the trend of the future and a continuing act of guessing what is future is going to be with our currently developing technology. 

Lets think about most of the post apocaliptic movies that happens in the future ? or the famous **DeLorean** from **Back to the Future** movie. In most of the scenarious you see a world that faced with disaster and the future people forced to use retro devices like classic modified cars or the trendy devices of the old. As you can clearly understand from the image I use in the above everything in there looks familiar however it seems like all these events happening in a quite different timeline.

How this concept from 60's movies become something unseperatable from distopia movies. I clearly don't know however these styles embraced by many director and designers and eventually in our world it even got branched to neonpunk, cyberpunk, steampunk.

#### What is the Purpose  ?

I attended a seminar about how to communicate through symbols and the main topic was brand logo communication. Some objects and familiar things give people more positive feelings to prevent prejudice. I highly think that retrofuturism in cinema started with similar intentions because in futuristic movie you wan't to show people a totally different developed world. However you also want them to like this new enviroment created by you therefore as a director you put some retro space vehicles maybe some futuristic buildings with similar design with our current world. Because of that implement people nourish more positive feelings to this familiar place eventhough it is in future.


Also I find it totally normal to have retrofuturistic elements in the futuristic movies because when we consider the meaning of retrofuturism it is totally reasonable . If you guys have a futuristic or post apocaliptic movie without any of these familiar images and completely different movie that is in a completely unfamiliar place I will be gladly take your recommendations
