We are testing a new feature... maybe you've seen that the list on the left hand side has some new tags/topics. No longer is it almost the same exact list you've seen for the last year.

## NEW LIST AS OF TODAY
 It's fun checking some of these tags that I didn't even know existed. And seeing some of the tags that seem to be pretty consistent.

_This is the second list we've added and it was good as of 12pm EST 11/14_

# POPULAR = If trending were actually based on trends
We are still committed to NOT using the word TRENDING on our site (except to keep the URL consistent with other steem interfaces) but the truth is that we likely have the feature most resembling trending... popular is a more intuitive less empty word anyway because it's actually based on verifiable popularity of statistics.

From what I can tell on steemit and other sites their list was based on what tags were being USED on the blockchain... that didn't give an accurate representation of what users actually wanted to read... just what users were writing. 

### WHAT USERS ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT
We have decided to make it a list of what users actually go and view.
We won't mention all the details about our algorithm but I'll say the following.

1. It's presently looking at the last week of data
2. It's presently placing priority to people looking through the feeds of these topics.
3. It is actually listed in order of the popularity. 
4. It is stats of SteemPeak users for SteemPeak users. 

# MANUAL NOW... WILL BE AUTOMATIC
Assuming people like this feature we will automate it and you'll see these topics go up and down the list a lot more frequently.

For now I (@jarvie) go in and use a spreadsheet to calculate the top 20-30 and then we separate the languages so you see those.

So yes now we'll be watching for creators to talk about and make certain themes popular and we'll see you in the list. Just a little thing that can make a great impact for content discovery.
