Am I last to the party with Game of Thrones?

I may be about eight years late, but I have just watched the first season of game of thrones. We have actually had the DVD set for a while. My daughter has read the books and picked this up in a charity shop. Unfortunately there was a disc missing, but we were able to stream the missing episodes.

I have not read the books and am not sure when I will have time to do so.

In the UK the show was just on Sky initially and we do not subscribe to that (and never will). Of course I had heard people talk about it, but I accept that I cannot watch everything. That has become a bigger issue now with so many rival streaming services with exclusive content.

So what did I think? I enjoyed it. It is pretty brutal, but then the characters live in a brutal world modeled on medieval Europe, but seeming on another world with magic and prolonged seasons (winter is coming). There are a few familiar faces in the cast such as Sean Bean and Charles Dance. Others have become well known through the show and appeared in other things, such as Doctor Who and Marvel movies. The portrayals are generally good. Some characters who come across as annoying are seemingly meant to be so. Even the kids do a good job.

I was surprised at the level of nudity even if it did not shock me. On most UK TV you will not generally see many full frontals of either gender. GoT is full of them.

The sets and action scenes are of a high standard. They obviously threw money at it. I know some was shot in Northern Ireland and I heard from a friend there that they were very keen to prevent any images leaking via locals.

Having watched this I am keen to see more. I will look out in the charity shops once they reopen. I expect lots of people are clearing out stuff they have watched.

We do subscribe to Netflix and just started on Disney+, partly due to the girls wanting to watch Hamilton. We did see it live in London. I just started watching The Mandelorian and that is good so far. We also have the next season of Umbrella Academy coming up on Netflix. Daughter and I will watch that. I have a feeling we may exhaust what we want to watch on Disney+ fairly soon. There are a few shows and movies I want to see, but they do not have the range of content Netflix provide.

I started to binge watch it when they aired the last few episodes as there was so much hype back then.  It was a bit tough to get through the first couple of episodes trying to remember who's who and recognise the people, but once I got over the initial stage, I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

The series is awesome, and it will get a whole lot better before it gets worse! The books are incredible and for me even more amazing than the tv show, but I would say don't bother with them... the author is yet to finish the novel and judging by the time it's taking him, I don't believe the last book(s) will ever come, so it's a big turnoff not to have am ending! Enjoy while you can! ;)

I am currently watching season 5 of "Better Call Saul", on Netflix.

I bought several of the books of Game of Thrones, but I stopped reading in the middle of book 3.
I also bought several seasons on BluRay, but I did not bought all of them. So, I don't know yet who Jon Snow's mother is. <b>Do not tell me!</b>

I really like it. Like many others, I think it is even better than Breaking Bad.

But, if you have not watched Breaking Bad, you need to do it before Better Call Saul. It is also on Netflix.

I don't know who his mother is yet. No idea if we find out. I have yet to watch any of Breaking Bad. One of many shows I have not seen.
