I've voted, for what it's worth

After what seems like forever the car crash of an election campaign is over and we get to cast our votes on who gets to run the UK for a few years. This has extra weight as it is likely to determine the next step in the Brexit saga instigated after David Cameron felt threatened by Nigel Farage's UKIP. Seems Nige' already has another party planned. He's determined to mess up this country and manages to fool people into thinking he cares about them. Boris Johnson seems to pull off the same trick by constantly lying and hiding from any real interrogation.

I have seen pictures of people queing to vote around the country. It was raining when I walked to our village hall to vote. That may put some people off, but I met a couple of people I know there. Turnout will be crucial, but in our constituency the Tories have a huge majority. The previous MP was ejected from the party for voting against their Brexit plans, so they have found someone with less principles to take a safe seat.

I am voting against the current government and picked the party with the best (remote) chance of beating them. I would generally vote Green even though they have little chance of winning anywhere. They do currently have one MP in Brighton.

Some will say voting is irrelevant, but I think Boris and Co are quite happy for us to think that. Maybe they have schemed to make things seem even more chaotic to turn people off politics. They are succeeding anyway. I am hoping that a lot of young people will be fired up to vote by the news they see the older generation make of politics and the environment.

I will not be watching the all-night TV coverage as it will just annoy me. I will see in the morning how things have turned out.

At least politics on the UK passes off fairly peacefully and a change of government does not result in violent purges. I feel for anyone who experiences that and this is part of why I value my democratic rights.

I am pretty lucky that I work out of town, so I am typically able to do an absentee ballot.  This means I don't have to go and wait in line or any of that.  I have done that in the past though so I have definitely gotten to feel the full experience of voting.  I hope things go the way you want them to.  I think our next election is going to be a crap-show.

I could do a postal vote too, but it's just a short walk to the polling station from home and I feel like getting the full experience on the rare times I get to vote. The result was worse than I expected, but life will go on. We have similar issues to you politically. We need to keep people talking about the issues.

I also voted, but with little expectation of changing the party in power in my electorate.
It was tough to decide who to vote for, so I acted as though we were a sensible democracy, with a single transferable vote...
Number 1 on my vote would be the Greens, as we need to shake up the parliamentary system and give greater weight to the environmental impact of government.
But the [YouGov](https://yougov.co.uk/uk-general-election-2019/) poll gives them 4% (2%-8% margin) of the vote, so that mean my vote rolls over to...
Number 2 would be the Lib Dems, who I'm still not wholly happy with based on previous performance, but they are the largest party who want to cancel Article 51.
But the poll gives them 17% (11% - 23%), so again we're rolling over to...
My vote number 3 goes to Labour, because apart from the EU silliness, and being part of the establishment problem of politics, have a manifesto I can get behind.
Labour poll 24% (17% - 31%), so even if you were to add on the Green & Lib Dem votes they still can't catch the Conservatives 53% (44%-61%).
Of course, the poll is 2 days old, and it's raining, so anything could happen.
I hope.
I'd just like to apologise to the rest of the world for the Conservative shitstorm coming from the UK in the next 4 years. I didn't vote for those arseholes.

Well... it seems to be a phase all countries are going through. We started early and have been at it for some time and the last election was a complete humiliation for the national conservatives. But only because the old parties like the Libertarians and the Social  Democrats have adopted strict immigration laws. Right now it is all about climate infrastructure which is a nice change after so many years of discussing Islam.

Brexit has been a massive distraction here. We may have to accept leaving, for now, and concentrate on things like the environment as well as addressing fundamental social issues. We have to watch them very carefully.
