I just finished another [Coursera](https://www.coursera.org/) course. This one was about [Python and Databases](https://www.coursera.org/learn/python-databases). This follows on from another by the same lecturer on [web data](https://steemit.com/education/@steevc/learning-some-more-python-for-free). I'm learning about what [Python](https://www.python.org/) can do. I've already used some of this knowledge to access a weather API for my [Pi Zero project](https://steemit.com/technology/@steevc/scrolling-pi).

This course did not involve as much programming as the last one. Most of the exercises were about applying a simple change to existing code.

The course uses [SQLite](https://sqlite.org/), which is a relatively simple, but still powerful database that uses fairly standard SQL commands, similar to what I use with Oracle at work. There's a neat browser tool for viewing the data.

You can do these courses for free, but you need to pay to get a certificate. I'm just doing them out of interest. I learn better from a structured course than just reading articles, but I'm building a core of knowledge that will let me experiment more. I plan to do some projects around the Steemit blockchain soon. 

I program for a living, but that's relatively boring stuff. I want to play around with cool technology. There's not much there yet, but I have a [Github page](https://github.com/steevc) where I'll be posting what I do.
