My first Eisteddfod

When in Wales...

It happened that the national Eisteddfod, which is a big celebration of Welsh culture was going on near us. Its a mix of things with lots of craft stalls and other exhibitors. The universities were well represented. We went in a mobile planetarium and I drove a virtual digger.

Of course music is a big part. We saw performances by a male voice choir and a harp quintet. In the main hall they have the competitions. We sat in on some singing contests for young people. They were very good, but they all sing the same songs. That's just how these things are run. It's all in Welsh, including the compere. We later found there were headphones for a translation. That evening we saw more on TV.

It's a good day out even if you don't speak the language. The weather was variable, but not too bad.

The stone circle is for the traditional druid ceremony.

This is very cool.  It seems like something you would want to say you have been to at least once in your life even if you don't keep going back year after year.  There is an Irish festival near where my inlaws live that is a blast. I used to attend a polka festival every year near my house and another folk music and bluegrass festival a couple of hours away.  I don't go to them as much anymore now.  Some of them just got a little too big and crowded.  The community feel isn't there anymore.
