Nature walk in Arlesey
It is getting really warm today, so I tried to get out before it got too hot. I did another walk along the River Hiz starting at the station.

![Damselfly](https://images.ecency.com/DQmf1igFUEuLr2RxveCUdRLrZZU9vezYRCPFQMjGQADxYtM/DSCF0148.JPG)
This may be a banded agrion damselfly. I saw lots of these fluttering around.

![Field](https://images.ecency.com/DQmdKVqChNsLAvJoAs6STZwHaYcYanZZ6HUGy1FrxW1US3i/DSCF0140.JPG)

This is the view from the footbridge over the railway. Some guys were out strimming to keep the paths clear. I was in shorts, so was watching out for nettles.

![Duck](https://images.ecency.com/DQmRKYQuEhUPqK58nJqPoFdk2YcXNY2xQTLxhK3XoSWy8P2/DSCF0143.JPG)

I only saw a couple of ducks. This one appeared from the overhanging bushes near the old bridge.

![Bridge](https://images.ecency.com/DQmZ64phZmjpPsX54UJD6L67p2eskTts2ycM7fBwMqkumvF/DSCF0145.JPG)

This bridge dates back to medieval times, with some modern reinforcement. It has stones with 1683 and 1711 on it, but those are from when it was previously repaired.

![Meadow](https://images.ecency.com/DQmUMxswpgricNeh6FnAh5cJcCEDdELAuy5VHsAKEYzaAEw/DSCF0153.JPG)

They allow lots of wild plants to grow here, but sometimes there have been cattle grazing. I think the big plants are cow parsley. There were lots of butterflies around.

![Small heath](https://images.ecency.com/DQmZ23K3GMBtTwQsSBkhYFdmRmoggdXaPxs9dbmoW5EAQfR/DSCF0156.JPG)

I am consulting my wildlife book, but I think this could be a small heath butterfly. I generally struggle to get pictures as they may not settle for long.

![Blackberries](https://images.ecency.com/DQmazXFAdMjhvhhmcmfGuqr8LLH13mpCZPdZPULQbFK1ap7/DSCF0158.JPG)

The blackberries are forming. There are some next door to us too that I will be picking over the fence.

![Leaves](https://images.ecency.com/DQmWoG3sbHDN6WaCz56wWheFyn4ZMJMahQaQPdoeReEugoj/DSCF0165.JPG)

I just liked the pattern of these leaves, but I captured another damselfly too.

![Dragonfly](https://images.ecency.com/DQmXrbnMiYpV8UNxMSXUkcFEJv3CAyDm4nvWYVBE1BUamXV/DSCF0168.JPG)

I am not sure if this is a dragonfly or damselfly. The camera captured a lot of detail.

![Tree](https://images.ecency.com/DQmWHbKmRptpHqzkCqsf5ZnBPUDsjB24YZod5RrVtGbgqQJ/DSCF0170.JPG)

This tree has some holes that framed the stream behind it.

![Fungi](https://images.ecency.com/DQmfNHnuTHneCJjLsrFomHhGNY8j8yN8Ez7YPjDrBHnP2K1/DSCF0171.JPG)

There were lots of these little fungi in one spot by the path.

![Moth](https://images.ecency.com/DQmXPspaXws3vzXBtf5LrHTZZZmbRNQk4EnrzbZuDEBWxau/DSCF0182.JPG)

Is this a butterfly or a moth? It is a good thing it kept still as I struggled to get the camera to focus on it. I did see a lot of tortoiseshell butterflies and various white ones. There was a hawk of some kind around, but I could not get a good picture as it was so far off and not staying still for long.

All pictures taken with Fujifilm FinePix S8650 bridge camera that has a 36x zoom.

Nice pictures you have here. @jess-ica has a thing for butterflies. Have you ever thought of trying to do some nature blog or documentary.. you seem ro know a lot of species of insects. I just know butterflies, i dont know Amy particular specie.

> Is this a butterfly or a moth?
I think that's a butterfly not a moth

Those are some great shots! It looks like a really lovely place to take a stroll/run/brisk walk! We just had a mini heat wave break and the next couple of days look like they are going to be really pleasant.

oooh the damselfly in the first photo is gorgeous, great photo. I remember long ago we had dragonfly around all the time - nowadays I never see them - don't know if it is down to pollution, predators or I'm not out in their natural environment enough.

They seem to be thriving around here. The river is looking pretty clean and no much rubbish around. I did actually pick up some litter. Need to take a bag for that next time.

I am still on a quest to see a kingfisher :)

Picture no. 4 from the bottom up is also a damselfly.
Last picture is a butterfly.

So good to see all of this Sir Steve and great photos.

I don't kow about your blackberry bushes, as ours have many irritating thorns.
Whenever I am near a river I simply follow the peacocks to find the blackberries.
My Canon Powershot is a 65xzoom and maybe you must also look at getting one later on.

Thanks for your knowledge on this. I have been influenced by your bug photos and am trying to get some good ones of my own. I thought I did fairly well today. Maybe if the Hive price shoots up I can invest in a new camera.

Our blackberries have thorns too, but then it's tricky to pick the fruit with gloves. Just have to be careful.

@papilloncharity ·
I picked up a brand new pair of gloves today that the ocean washed out Sir Steve and snapped the world's longest distance flying bird. Go and look.

You did very well today and pity that the zoom was not enough to get the hawk, but that first picture of yours is champion stuff.
It seems that you are getting very good with the nature shots and maybe you must also use our #amazingnature tag for your nature posts!

Oh, I pick bowls full of blackberries without gloves. I just don't like it when the thorns hook on my clothing, as I am one of those smooth movers in the jungle.
My mentor was a Leopard Lol.

Nice pictures. Reminded me of my days when we used to hunt for different types of Fern patterns in the wild.πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ™‚

@steevc ·
They are lovely things. The air was buzzing with insects of all sizes. It's amazing how many types there are, but we may not even notice them.
