Networking in Stevenage

I've been going to some of the meetings of the [SyncHerts](https://www.meetup.com/SyncHerts/) group for a year or so. It brings together developers, entrepreneurs and other interested parties to enjoy presentations and chat. I enjoy just talking with my fellow geeks.

Last night's talks were about [Docker](https://www.docker.com/), which I didn't know too much about, and a PHP data access system called [Agile Data](https://github.com/atk4/data/) presented by the guy who developed it. The latter relates to the sort of things I work on and I wish they used something like that. I do a lot of work with databases, mostly Oracle.

I used to go to [Herts LUG](http://www.herts.lug.org.uk/) (Linux User Group), but some of those people come to the SyncHerts meetings too. Nowadays Linux is more mainstream and I know a lot of developers work with it. It's been my main home OS for many years.

Got to love Tux.

How interesting, again:

My main work area is  Oracle Forms 11 with loads of PL/SQL  in a 12c database :)

I haven't done forms, but have done a lot of PL/SQL. Still waiting for the company to upgrade from 11 :)

We (OK, our main client) migrated this year straight from 10. We do have some issues with NLS and varchar2(4000) fields, date fields and xml's. Otherwise no problems.

I would rather do APEX but legacy is legacy ...

On the other hand I am researching / learning / taking two paths. First is WordPress - no programming, just setting up, fidgeting with themes, and running. Second is all blockchain (whatever variety) related stuff. The real future.

By the way - I am starting to learn about docker and work with docker. My first steps include just using it. You know, [Synereo alpha node](https://steemit.com/synereo/@ervin-lemark/synereo-standalone-node-alpha-variety-successfully-installed-in-less-than-half-an-hour) is a docker image ;)
