The recent Steem outage has had some media coverage, including [this piece](https://www.coindesk.com/when-blockchains-go-down-why-crypto-outages-are-on-the-rise/) on Coindesk. Obviously it's not good for a blockchain to go down, but the Steem team is taking the risk of a major change in order to move forward to a more scalable platform. It's already one of the quickest blockchains, but it needs to be able to handle lots of new users. The hardfork is due tomorrow and it looks like the witnesses are happy with that. We've had to wait about a year for this and it's more important to get it right than rush it. Even Bitcoin has had a few issues along the way, but now it's hard to make any changes to it. Steem is relatively young and small, so it can adapt. The article refers to a certain Mr B.S. who we all know (and love?). He can get away with a lot as few would dare to take him on. I'm actually getting votes from him lately via the Helpie initiative, but we have to be aware of what reputation Steemit is getting. There's lots of good work with charities, art, music and communities that deserves more coverage and support. Use your votes to support that and not just in hope of curation rewards. If Steem can grow to tens or even hundreds of millions of users then your Steem will appreciate. If people are put off because they see too much junk on the trending page then it will never take off. Of course we want it to be fun too, but the future of Steem is up to us. Steem on!

I actually had a conversation about this with my husband the other night. It is great that we can raise funds for people/animals etc in need, just with a click of a button! Exactly. I think we need ways to verify that charities are genuine. That could be via trusted 3rd parties. There's a lot of greed here and it would help to have more good projects to point to. BTW Steem price is up, but we'll see if it stays up this time.

Agreed. I have thought about setting up an account to support the bulldog charities I work with, but I am not sure about the logistics and the money side of it seen as I am not the charity owner or even on the board. It is probably not correct for me to do it in their name. It would be good to have some kind of charity number to verify the details. So glad to see the steem price up a little, lets see if it can rise to above £1 :D

Great sage advice for the masses. While I am very eager for the hype to produce the numbers to fill up my #cryptopub, I am glad they are taking it slow and steady, building the foundation to support the millions of active users. I like the article most for showing some personalities in the blockchain, rather than just a faster stronger better cheaper blockchain.......which it mentions as well. Thanks again @Steevc!
