Today was the [Stotfold Challenge](http://stotfoldchallenge.co.uk/). It's a 5k fun run to raise money for Etonbury Academy, which is where my kids went. A more famous pupil was Olympic cyclist Victoria Pendleton. I've done this event several times before. The course stretches over the local farm tracks. It's only about 2km from home, so I jogged there to warm up.

This is me after the race.

There were a couple of hundred entrants. Lots of kids and then all ages. We were asked to sort ourselves according to how fast we expected to be, but I tend to end up too far back and then have to overtake a lot of people early on. A lot of the kids start out too fast and can't keep it up, but some of them did really well.

They have various sponsors to help with the prizes and goodie bags. Yes, there's fruit too.

I set off fairly fast and was able to get away from the masses early on. Some of the tracks are narrow, so it's no so easy to pass. There's lots of long grass to get through around the fields. I overtook a few more along the way, but by the last km I didn't have much left and a couple came past me. I was still pleased to see the clock just ticking past 27 minutes as I finished.

Endomondo reckons I did slightly better than that. My all time best is about a minute quicker and I'd love to get back to that.

I hung around to see a few more people, but there was nobody I knew there. I walked and jogged back home and am now enjoying some fresh coffee.
