What's the top dapp?

I've been keeping an eye on the @stateofthedapps [rankings](https://www.stateofthedapps.com/rankings/) and just saw something I had sort of expected. Steemit has been at the top for a while, but currently @DrugWars has taken over. It's hard to know how close it actually is as they take various factors into consideration.

I had noticed that Steemit has a distinct weekly cycle of activity that can be seen on the right. It gets a lot less activity at weekends. A few other dapps on the chart also have this, but not always as obvious. Do Steemians take the weekend off? If anything I am more active over the weekend. It may well be that Steemit will reclaim top spot in a day or two, but the fall today looks bigger than in the last few weeks.

I know that activity on other Steem dapps is climbing. Obviously @DrugWars is still on the way up, but @SteemMonsters has lost a little ground. There are [a lot of dapps now](https://www.stateofthedapps.com/rankings/platform/steem), but many are in very early stages with just a few users.

@Partiko is doing well. I installed it on my phone recently. I can appreciate that people are incentivised to use it as you earn their points that can be exchanged for Steem. It's a nicely designed app that makes it easy to react to events such as replies. I like that you can disable notifications for votes as I get too many of those (nice problem to have).

Previously my main way to see how Steemit was doing was [Hypestat](https://hypestat.com/info/steemit.com) (using Alexa data). These are web stats that will include visits from people who are not Steem users. That has shown a fall for most of the last year. We need to make Steem sites a more visible part of the web that people will visit to find good content. We can do that through sharing links on other platforms. There's a big effort to do this on Twitter led by people like @nathanmars and @theycallmedan.

I do have a bit of an obsession with stats and the internet is providing me with plenty. I really ought to get into querying Steem directly as many others do when I find the time.

I do wonder how long the popularity of Drug Wars is going to last. It is the darling of Steem right now, but that was Steem Monsters just a few months ago.

I've been playing Drug Wars, but even I can feel the honeymoon period wearing off. They've been slowly fixing the problems with it, but it's a very two-dimensional game right now that needs to do more to keep people interested long-term.

The next big thing is just around the corner. I wonder what the next craze will be.

DW never really grabbed me, but I still persist with SM. Not that I progress much. It's good that people are creating new dapps that capture some interest, so there should be something for everyone.

That is really interesting that it was able to take the top spot. I am not sure I agree with that, but I guess you can't argue with the numbers.  I would have thought the excitement would have died down a little by now.

Steemians take the weekends off, that's weird I too thought that Steemians would be more online during the weekend because they had more time... 

I don't know how they count the drugwars stats, I mean, do they count if we have the tab open? Is it by the number of transactions on the blockchain? Because if it is tab based I pretty much spend the whole day with the tab open, if it is by number of transactions then it is amazing!
