Bike, train, parkrun

I just finished a 5.252km running that lasted about 0hh:25mm:51.0ss !

Another lovely morning, so I decided to do another parkrun. The train ticket I have to get to work covers weekends too, so I cycled to the station to get the train to Stevenage. I get there a bit early as the next train would be too late, so I took it easy cycling up the hills to Fairlands Valley Park. As usual lots of people gathered for the start. There were a couple of people wearing capes to mark their 50th and 100th runs. This was only my 21st.

I just went all out on this run and tried to keep up the best pace I could. I do not check how I am doing during the run, but it felt pretty good. It just feels like such a long way, especially when you get into the second lap. I was wearing my new On shoes that are super light, so maybe they made it easier.

The finish is uphill and I had nothing left to sprint up that. When I crossed the line I checked Endomondo that was showing nearly 26 minutes, but it also said it was 5.25km and reckoned I did 5km in just over 24 minutes. That would be great, but I trust those measuring the course over GPS that is not so accurate.

My [official time](https://www.parkrun.org.uk/stevenage/results/weeklyresults/?runSeqNumber=169) has come in and it is a new PB! 25:26 is a few seconds faster than last week. I am happy with that. I need to go to a flatter course to see how much quicker I can be.

Many congratulations! 

I've been doing a bit of research on Park Runs recently - there's a youtube vid by runners world on the fastest five - some might be near you, there's also one on the toughest five which is a bit more interesting. 

I've now hit on a strategy of the following:

Sunday - 10+K long easy run
Tuesday - hard intervals
Thursday - 6-8K easy run
Saturday - 'strong running' park run. 

Strong running is a runners world concept I came across last week - it involves 85% effort for the whole run - trying to hit a particular pace - I'm going to do this for the park run and just try to nudge by times quicker - and when I'm in the mood just go fast every now and then for a PB. 

There are over 600 park runs in Britain BTW - a real institution. 

Relay Park runs might be a thing for the future too, which could be interesting to mix it up.

I don't have much of a strategy, but I have been doing a long easy run on Sundays and intervals on Wednesdays for a while. That seems to be paying off. I wonder how much difference an extra run each week would make, but I am only doing this for fun.

How do you judge when you are at 85%? I do wonder about getting something to monitor my heart rate as I don't have anything at the moment.

parkrun is a real phenomenon. There were nearly 400 there today plus spectators. That is great for something that nobody is paying directly for. I know they have sponsors to buy equipment.

I will keep trying to get there at least a couple of times each month and will endeavour to get to others in the area.

I know she is quick, but it gets harder to improve as you go on. As a bloke with longer legs I ought to have some advantage over her, but I am fighting against age. I think I can still improve a bit.
