**Automation**
The word automation in today's world is used everywhere. Automation exists in the industrial sector, in the pharmaceutical sector, in the construction of houses, in heating systems, etc. etc. If we wanted to describe the term automation in a few words, we can say that automation identifies a technology that uses control systems to manage machinery and processes. Automation has a very specific purpose, that of reducing the need for human intervention.

**Examples to understand automation**
Some practical examples could be a thermostat or an industrial production line.
The thermostat is a device that turns the heating on and off based on the temperature. In this case, human intervention is eliminated, there no longer needs to be someone who checks the temperature to turn the heating system on or off.
A well-designed industrial production line can assemble objects without the use of workers, or you can reduce the number of workers needed

What are the purposes of a system?
Basically we can say that a controlled system must achieve objectives. These objectives are those that must be managed by the control system and the system to be controlled. These objectives can be grouped into three groups: functionality, specifications and performance.
*Functionality*
A controlled system that is able to perform the activities for which it was designed, means that it has a functionality. Basically, functionality is that thing for which the system was created.
*Specifications*
Part of the specifications of a system are the expected operating conditions, the reference operating conditions and the nominal values
*Performance*
A controlled system has the desired performance in performing the expected activities when it is able to achieve the pre-established results according to the desired methods.
We can say that a controlled system has three main characteristics: functionality, specifications, performance.

An automation system, to be called such, should contain minimum elements, without it it cannot be considered an automation system.
These elements are: a process to control, a controller, a sensor, an actuator

**The specification**
The specification is one of the purposes of an automation system.

**Automazione**
La parola automazione nel mondo di oggi è usata ovunque. L’automazione esiste nel settore industriale, nel settore farmaceutico, nelle costruzioni delle abitazioni, nei sistemi di riscaldamento, eccetera eccetera. Se volessimo descrivere il termine automazione con poche parole, possiamo dire che l’automazione identifica una tecnologia che usa dei sistemi di controllo per gestire macchinari e processi. L’automazione ha un fine ben preciso, quella di ridurre la necessità dell’intervento umano.


**Esempi per comprendere l’automazione**
Alcuni esempi pratici possono essere un termostato ho una linea di produzione industriale.
Il termostato è un apparato che accende e spegne il riscaldamento in base alla temperatura. In questo caso l’intervento dell’uomo viene eliminato, non ci deve essere più qualcuno che va a controllare la temperatura per accendere o spegnere l’impianto di riscaldamento.
Una linea di produzione industriale ben ideata può assemblare oggetti senza l’utilizzo di operai, oppure puoi ridurre il numero di operai necessari
Possiamo fare un piccolo ragionamento e affermare che un sensore di temperatura, un'equazione differenziale e un controllore PID non possnon essere considerati come sistemi di automazione, mentre una macchina utilitaria può essere considerata come un sistema di automazione

Cosa sono le finalità di un sistema?
Sostanzialmente possiamo dire che un sistema controllato deve raggiungere degli obiettivi. Questi obiettivi sono quelli che devono essere gestiti dal sistema di controllo e dal sistema da controllare. Un di sistema di automazione, per essere chiamato tale, dovrebbe contenere degli elementi minimi, senza di esso non può essere considerato come sistema di automazioni.
Questi elementi sono: un processo da controllare, un controllore, un sensore, un attuatore

**La specifica**
La specifica è una delle finalità di un sistema di automazione.
Facciamo un esempio. Una specifica per un sistema di controllo della temperatura di un forno deve definire chiaramente l'obiettivo del controllo. Inseguire con fedeltà il profilo di temperatura impostato dall'operatore è per il sistema di automazione del forno la specifica.
Precisiamo che le specifiche di un sistema di controllo sono l'elenco dettagliato, schematico e qualitativo dei risultati che devono essere raggiunti e delle caratteristiche tecniche di un sistema di controllo.

Le finalità di un sistema di controllo sono gli obiettivi che devono essere raggiunti dalla applicazione del sistema di controllo al sistema da controllare.

In conclusione, possiamo dire che l’automazione è un insieme di tecnologie che permettono ad un sistema di funzionare senza l’intervento umano diretto, o con un intervento umano molto ridotto.
