Yeah it's cold, really cold, winter can be like in Russia. But summer is very hot and the city is full of life everywhere. I was there a very cold year as people were saying... but a woman told me once: "it's better like this because if Chicago had a better weather it should be very crowded because all people would like to live here and it wouldn't be the same cool city".
