Agreed! I blogged about the upvoting of comments a few weeks ago and the feeling was generally mutual.

However, I did receive a post (from a minnow) supporting the whales that do this as it's 'their right' and because 'they have invested in the platform'.

It's nice to see a 74 rep user to come out and say how detrimental upvoting your own comments is for the platform.

I like the no self vote policy . If something is a problem then tweek the software so that it cant happen .

100% agree, i started noticing this behaviour so much recently especially by new users, its just pathetic! hopefully it will get sorted!! the worst one i have seen , is people sending randowhales to their own comments to get paid!!! :O

I proposed @dwinblood to decrement payouts on selfvotes but his idea is it would be broken immediately with multiple accountings

This needs to be addressed or Steemit will die a very good note-worthy post exploits, like these require attention. That's a get rich scheme for programmers. But programmers can also help other users, all and all bots are probably making users rich on this platform siphoning it dry from $$ and value.

So much yunk in this post.  But I agree.  I'd love a hardfork policy change that abandons monetary rewards for self-voting comments.  I didn't realize the extent of this problem, but hot damn is it bad.  Thank you for bringing more visibility to this issue, @stellabelle.  I'm glad you're still here. :)

It's sad how people do this. I've seen users only upvoting themselves or "a bit better" they give a post 1% vote, make a 1-3 word generic comment and upvote own comment 100%. 

It's sad and it seems like a way of fishing upvotes from the poster and others, as the poster sees "Hey, this high power guy gave me an upvote, I'll upvote his comment as thanks". 

People like this even pretend they are generous in hopes of getting more upvotes from others, who are not following the upvote % at all.

I am pleased i stumbled upon your post.

I just joined steemit a week ago, while trying to understand how steemit works i saw a lot of popular people on steemit upvoting  themselves and kinda bragging about it. i even upvoted a few of my posts. but i felt there is something wrong and if that is the way steemit works it could threaten it's existence. 

thanks to you and people here, i realized it's  a hot issue and that there are people who truly care about steemit and want to see it flourish, which in turn will help new people and steemians have hope that steemit will become a big thing  and a welcoming place for new people.

Wow so much of the top SBD holders are generated by themselves.
It would be pretty cool if upvoting yourself becomes disabled as I think other people should add value to your work. Not yourself. By self upvoting I think upvoting posts is fine since I think it will make people less likely to get steem power but upvoting their own comments should be disabled.

I hate those who just making meaningless comments like 'nice post', 'funny post'.
The worst thing that has ever happened to me is someone saying 'funny post' when I was opening up about one of my friends taking their lives.
 I was so angry and I could feel a storm of rage brewing in me.

Hopefully this can have some impact and some great ideas are implemented on to steemit @stellabelle

This solution is not good: people will create two or more accounts and vote for each other ... If the solution before HF19 was working, we HAVE to go back to it ! People will always try to maximize their profit, we have to change the system so they can't do it .... And as I can, I will self-upvote my comment... Steemit is broken at the moment ... What is put place to fix this ?

@stellabelle Thank you for this article. I am new to Steemit, and I am trying to learn things about the blockchain and its inner workings as I go. But honestly, most of this stuff goes WAY over my head. I am intelligent and can use technology, but I don't want to program it. I am an artist. I post my art on here, along with making intelligent comments and upvoting others' posts and comments. I did not even know you could vote for your own comments. But I have been growing suspicious since I joined that technically savvy people are gaming Steemit when I see what is making money on here. There is a lot of quality content, but I have noticed some real garbage making hundreds of dollars. Yesterday I saw a really short post with a stock image that just cut off mid sentence that made hundreds of dollars. I wish I would have noted the user. I was like, what the f#*k!?!?! Anyway, thanks. Very enlightening. Perhaps I will stick it out for a few months and see what changes transpire to make Steemit a truly fair and equitable social media platform.

Okay, at first i was kinda scared with your post title, but later i felt good reading this and "thumbs up" your excellency.  If steemit must grow and last long then users must avoid greed and selfishness.

We don't have to paint the wrong image of this community for new users coming in, and this type of post helps everyone to think the right way to behave if steemit will last long
