Wow, that was a neat read.  I had a made a post here on Steemit just the other day https://steemit.com/openbazaar/@cryplectibles/openbazaar-using-steem-within-app  that tackles directly the flow of value to Steemit users and Steem by taking value from outside ecosystems and adding them to our own.    I think people should really start thinking outside the Steemit box.  The communities within Steemit are already so good, time to bring in more people from other sources to add to this value.

I kinda like "welcome to the blockchain" but you're probably right, there could be something more inviting.

Interesting article. I still don't know much about the blockchain, trying to learn and understand a little bit more everyday. I have actually tried to recruit a few people to Steemit today. The problem is that I actually have to explain the whole platform to them to get them to sign up, and I don't know so much myself. I know that there were some articles added on how to start here, but it is rather difficult to explain something you don't fully understand yourself. It is even more difficult to get people to stay after signing up if they don't believe in something.. I have convinced them to sign up though, but it will literally be a training session on skype daily.  We all work online so it's not difficult to do this, but  if "someone" could make a proper introduction video for new members, that will help. This video should however be in very easy laymen's terms. Not everyone understands cryptocurrency, and not everyone understands blockchain. And I feel like a complete idiot most of the time! 😂

I agree with you that a marketing group needs to be put together.  There are a number of areas in communication that can be greatly improved.   First off, in its marketing, steemit should stay as far away as possible from any of the technical cryptocurency terms like:  blockchain, hard fork, etc.   Also I noticed not Ned kept calling steemit and "experiment" during a recent interview.  In my opinion this is definitely not a good choice of words to use to identify the project in mass marking communications.   Would be nice to see a volunteer group come together out of the community to help to propose the marketing framework and  marketing lingo that would be most effective.

Interesting perspective. It's one way of looking at it and after being here for 7 months I see where you're coming from.

It's not a wholly inclusive description of Steemit though. There's more that goes on, including extensive efforts with manual curation to try to distribute rewards to subjectively good posts. And to someone who's just posting and commenting, they might not ever see "behind the curtain" at these efforts but they'll enjoy getting upvoted and earning some value in the form of tokens-worth-money and Steem Power.

Transparency wise it's better than it was but there is still quite a way to go.  It's great that all the information is there if you know how to find it and can understand all the tech speak. the rest of us could do with hearing from the team more.

I agree. Whilst we are all trying to take up this role as a community to a degree it would be markedly more efficient to have some kind of advisory board of people with relevant expertise.  They don't even have to be full time positions or paid for.  I suspect some people would just give their input for free.
