I remember vividly in highschool, SS1 to be precise, my classmate and seat partner Ire was always planning her future wedding and would always carry me along in her wedding plans. Ire would plan her wedding down to the minutest detail because she wanted nothing less than perfection. She was always fantasizing about her future wedding and what her future husband would be like and even calculated the year she would have actualized her dream wedding which was supposed to be ten years from the year we were in SS1. I found it funny that she was already planning her wedding in SS1 and all she'd say was that she enjoyed it, which I always found difficult to understand. It turns out that it wasn't only my friend that caught the wedding planning fever, several of the girls in my class were also found guilty. I was bewildered. Sadly, that's how it is these days, people love to plan big weddings and forget that the marriage is actually bigger than the wedding. They marry, have the grandest wedding of all time and then separate later. It's quite disappointing especially for those who are single and aspiring to marry. It makes one wonder what exactly is marriage for if after everything there'll still be a separation. These days, a lot of nasty things are done by 'married' people with all kinds of excuses used to justify their actions without remorse whatsoever and I wonder what marriage will be like for me. I watched a video on TikTok where a woman was asking why there are married men in her DM asking her to be in a relationship with them. She wondered how she was going to end up getting married if this is what married couples do. Watching that video made me sad because she said a lot of things that are actually happening which makes me wonder if that's all marriage is about. On the other hand, I have seen beautiful and wonderful marriages that have stood the test of time and are still standing. That's where I draw my motivation from because the best marital advice comes from those who have had it going together for a long time and still choose to have it together in the future. Marriage is a choice, a choice one has to make and it is also a choice one has to be extremely careful making. One of the reasons I didn't plan my wedding along with my fellow classmates back in highschool was because I knew that I didn't want just the wedding, I wanted a marriage (I didn't know at that time). I want a long lasting marriage with someone who will be willing to choose me each time I will be willing to choose him. I get inspired when I see married couples working together as it should be. Marriage is all about teamwork and shouldn't be one man to himself. I wish to be married someday and when that eventually happens, I'll then decide whether I want a grand wedding or a quiet one. All that is left for me to do right now is find the person that is willing to do forever with me with the same enthusiasm as me. Many people spend a lot of money planning big occasions that often times last months or years and crashes. The kind of marriage you have doesn't matter it is how your home will be that matters. I believe you, marriage is a thing of choice, we shouldn't allow people or condition to push us into it. We should marry because it is what we want. We should also marry whom we know are compatible with, not everyone can't tolerate our shits. Finding the right partner is a big problem these days, but I believe that if we follow things the right way, we will eventually end up with one.
