<p>In little under 3 hours the <strong>STEEM BLOCKCHAIN </strong>will undergo its latest <strong>Hard Fork</strong>, but what actually is a <strong>Hard Fork</strong>?</p>
<p>I am often asked by people that they have heard a couple of terminologies that they struggle to grasp:</p>
<ul>
  <li><strong>ROAD MAP</strong></li>
  <li><strong>HARD FORK</strong></li>
</ul>
<p>For the ones that are totally familiar with the terms we must not forget that there are many out there that see these terms as alien to them.</p>
<p>In this Blog I simply wanted to help those understand what they mean by explaining them in simple terms.</p>
<h2>ROAD MAP</h2>
<p>The Road Map that has been set out for the year is a plan of the Fundamental and Functionality Changes that are set to be applied to the Blockchain.</p>
<p>In simple terms think of it as a Road Map that will allow you to plan a route for a journey.</p>
<p>Before setting off on your journey it is always a great idea to have your route set out.</p>
<p>The <strong>STEEM Blockchain ROAD MAP</strong> is in essence that planned journey to take us through the year and beyond.</p>
<h2>HARD FORK</h2>
<p>In simple terms a <strong>Hard Fork </strong>is where the Fundamental and Functionality Changes set out in the <strong>Road Map</strong> are implemented.</p>
<p>A Hard Fork lifts off and redistributes the new Functionality of the Blockchain across the nodes and resets the Fundamentals of the Blockchain.</p>
<p>In simple terms think of a route that is taking you in a slightly different direction and you want to change course and go <strong>OVER THE HILL</strong>..!!</p>
<p>The Hard Fork allows you to reset a course and take you over the hill and back on a new route.</p>
<h2>HUGE SHOUT TO THE DEVELOPERS</h2>
<p>I wanted to once again say a Massive <strong>STEEMIT Shout Out</strong> to the Developers for a successful <strong>Hard Fork</strong>, one of which I have every confidence in being totally seamless..!!</p>

I blogged about [HF19](https://steemit.com/hf19/@abh12345/hf19-pulling-the-ladder-up-or-more-encouragement-for-minnows-to-buy-steem-targeting-500-steem-power)  yesterday, with particular regards to minnows and users of less than 500 SP. As 'low grade' user, I am looking forward to more SP power (in terms of effect) and expect that the changes will have a positive effect. The beauty of software is that it can be changed again later on if aspects of HF19 do not turn out as intended.
