Dear Steemit, why do you undervalue your developers who make this platform big and usable? [REPOST for AWARENESS]
# Since my first intro on Steemit, i've been paving my way up the ranks and reputation where each step brought me closer to the inner community of those who give actual use to Steemit: The developers.

From the top dogs, to the new underdog developers, we all share one thing: The passion for what we do.

https://img1.steemit.com/0x0/https://assets.entrepreneur.com/content/16x9/822/20141230193127-work.jpeg

During many talks with many people that i've started to know beyond their nicknames by sharing experiences, advice, ideas and concepts, one detail started to be obvious for most. We feel undervalued by this community. Now hold your horses! I'm not talking about the financial aspect to be clear. All we do and create is to help this community and to challenge and improve our own skills.

The thing here is simple; We don't get the recognition we deserve. We're spending countless hours staring at code for you're improvement or pleasure, for the community's sake and for the future of Steem. I'm having a hard time finding ANY new community where this amount of work and tools have been made and created by it's users, making Steemit and STEEM very usefull to anyone without knowledge on blockchain technology. This also includes the big dogs, like @dan and @ned. When do you guys ever thank them for the work, when will you ever leave a message about the work they've done? Yup. When you're looking to get an upvote most likely.

Well fellow Steemers, we feel undervalued when getting 200 upvotes in 12 hours for a work we've spend all our free time on, while some guy promoting drugs, or some other one-post-guy get's 500 votes and makes a 15k post in under 3 hours. Sometimes it feels like a slap in the face, and again, i'm not talking about the financial rewards here!

All i'm saying is, if you use a tool made by someone, send him your upvote, even if it's an older post. If you see a developer announce some usefull tool, upvote it, try it, use it, and leave some feedback.

All i'm saying is, don't be a sheep and blindly upvote random crap just because a whale upvoted it. Read the posts, judge yourself, look at how it could benefit the platform, support active writers/developers instead of one-post people, and please! Stop upvoting that #introduceyourself - The hype is over!

Small PS note

I never heard any developer literally complaining about this. I do feel most of us agreeing on this matter without the need to discuss it. It's just a 'Aah man, look! This random guy get's voted up for no reason and our hard work gets no votes' thing. Like said before, we all love what we do, and will continue to do it!

This is a REPOST to raise awareness - Not looking for your upvotes or the $$$, just for awareness!

#Steem on!

@steve-walschot, I support the policy of your post, but I see from the other side and there was something odd in steemit. I am a new user and are always active to make posting and trying to make a good post, but where I pobud post no one responded to my post ..

But I see so many whales playing grub to give upvote to a friend, or grub they make at steemit ..
if this continues whether new users will get a chance it ??

Or a fee for posting that they make to always give their best to promote steemit steemit and in the future will come ..

If the whales just as it keeps the new user that wants to participate in steemit ?? may no longer on and off steemit step for the future ... !!

**Thanks for your post..** :)

the problem is the distribution is all jacked up because they didn't do a proper airdrop and/or ICO.

i worked on mastercoin and it had the same issue. when something has just a few guys that control a huge % of the system it has a cost.

they better fix it fast or some dude is just going to fork this and do an ICO, the better distribution will allow the copycat network to fly.

i know why they did things the way they did them to avoid SEC issues, but building software to please "the Man" is not market reality.

My personal opinion is that every project needs trials and errors, it is hard to build a social media ground up. Even facebook took 5-6 years to hit mainstream and the first facebook designs were horrible. I think over the course of the next years we shall see steemit improve in design and usability. Until then we just need to improve security ASAP, and it will take over facebook by popularity.

First off, thank you. Thank you and all the other developers on working on and around Steemit.

I agree that there are a lot of great innovative apps being built on Steem for Steemit. It's a testament to how Steemit has galvanised developers to add value to the site. We should say thank you more and I’m saying it (again now) thank you.

However, I hope you appreciate that it is still early days for Steemit. I haven’t used your Steem payment processor yet, however I’m sure when I and others do, you’ll get more of the recognition you deserve.

For example, one of the apps I use (even more that I visit Steemit) is https://steemstats.com by **@jesta**. More than just praise the work done (which is important), I try to spread awareness where I can, even on posts that **@jesta** may not see.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that a lot of these apps have been amply rewarded. Some haven't been but many have. A lot have been rewarded handsomely on potential utility alone. Some have received further rewards for minor/ major updates. I’m sure many non-devs grumbled, however I thought this was great as it incentivises people to work on the platform.

By the same token there have been some fantastic posts that bring value to the site. Some have been rewarded greatly, others not so much. Many authors have spent hours researching and writing posts only to see a few cents return.

Take for example **@donkeypong** who for me is the one of the best writers (if not the best writer) on the site. His [last post](https://steemit.com/steem/@donkeypong/are-you-smarter-than-a-49er-we-need-a-whole-circle-of-jercos-entrepreneurs) 'only' received $230. Whilst $230 is nothing to be sneezed out, for me it was worth 10 to 50 times that given the current payouts.

However the fact is that there is **alot** competition for a de facto a handful of votes that make a *significant* difference to your payouts. These highly paid posts get the ā€˜attention’ and eye-balls. They thus get the ā€˜recognition’ in comments.

It is a question of luck and timing.

I say luck and timing because it isn't like just ā€˜like-for-like’ competition you're up against. You're also up against the current zeitgeist. Right now, it's minor *(no offence intended to anyone, however the last I checked Beyonce hasn't joined just yet)* 'personalities', that are getting shine. This is great as it adds to the rich pool of people that will eventually make Steemit successful. These guys are not getting ā€˜voted up for no reason.’ They add value in terms of support, marketing and getting the word out. They put the graft in, in their field of expertise as you do in yours. They will help bring in the people that will flock to your apps!

To me it’s circular; the time will come for developers to get the shine more as it will for consistently great writers. As the Steemit grows and the money is distributed more evenly, it will be easier for all quality contributors to get a decent return for their efforts.

It's unfortunate that you feel undervalued. You shouldn’t do. There is now **a lot** of very good, varied content and not enough curators and pure consumers of content (in my opinion).

It may be resourceful to see this leg on the Steemit journey as a ā€˜mission not a competition’…. a mission for mass adoption. Once the mission is successful we (the early adoptors) will ***all*** get more recognition (and upvotes) than we could possibly imagine.

Keep the faith!
