This look amazingly delicious @stevemuis 😁😁😁 here I'm from we also have those pots and are used to cook directly in the wood fire 🤗🤗, usually for hours!  At least in my grandma's time it was used quite often. Nowadays, we don't see it so much, except maybe in small interior villages.

Howrver, it brings back a lot of childhood memories, which I'm grateful your post brought me 🙏 thank you for that!

We have so many of these pots here in Nigeria, like you said it's quite expensive and can stay for so many years...very durable and strong. Normally, this type of pot and the rest of cooking intensils are local...we have the big turning stick for stiring the food or stew maybe and the clothes attached to the cover of the pot for helping opening the pot when the food is very hot. I enjoyed watching these traditional women cook native foods with it.

I'm glad I had to watch it from this part of the south African world...thanks for sharing this in Dreemport.

Oh my gosh! I've always wanted to go to one of these! Most times I braai or have a potjie I only end up eating the food for breakfast though 🤣🤣🥂🍻🍹

I love these cookoffs!!! How fun and what a day that made! That is a lot of work, but, oh, my!!! They can be pretty delicious! Which one did you make? Confess!  :)

I am partial to the Oxtail! Well, I do love the seafood too. I think that is the joy of taking a small serving of each! You don't have to select. So, unless you are going to have a follow-up, are you going to tell me who won??? Inquiring minds want to know! I apologize for such a late reply, I have been out of town watching the wild horse round-up and did not have regular wifi available at my camp. I am going through all the posts and reading them, that is the best part of the week, and you have spent much time and effort putting your post together. I never have to wonder about how things are going in your part of the world. Seems like I get to hear weekly about the happenings. How fun for me and all the other people who stop by to give it a read. As an aside, I have been really happy with how well the #MarketFriday participants are stopping by others' posts to give them some support and leaving comments. Wow!  How on earth was anybody supposed to try and judge a portion of all 10 potjies?  They are usually so filling - I'm trying to imagine how small a portion I would have to take to try all 10!

Great day out, ending off in a tasting session, one ingredient I use is rooibos tea instead of wine, beer or other drinks which brings out the best in lamb or mutton I have found.

Sharing traditional foods, good to practice the art as well with the way our electricity is more off than on of late!

This looks so interesting and judging from the ingredients, it isn't far from something I would try. The brain behind the initiative is a good one.

Potjiekos is one of the best meals! Truly tastes like home and always a lekker day with friends and family. My favourite to go with it is wheat rice, sometimes samp, depends on the meat in the potjie.
Lmb or oxtail with red wine is just the absolute best 🤤

Wow, now i miss my South African "Brother" and his braaj's and potjie's... thanks for making me remember him and the awesome times we had together. 

Men!!! This is so native and believable. The ingredients and the procedure made it so homely. I enjoyed the viewing as much as the reading.

I never thought some countries also make use of this method to cook. I thought it's only in Africa this is done. This is the only method my grandma would always preferred because she believes food cooked through such method is always delicious and taste different than the ones cooked on a gas. 

Though, not this one in particular. Ours could be in form of three legged small metal being placed on the floor with firewood or the use of three big stones. This is my first time seeing something like this.

Awesome post, Steve, as a fellow SAFFA, I can relate to potjie kos haha... I have however only had it a few times in my life with family friends of ours and it was made vegetarian, as I grew up veggie !LOL... but it was such a fun way to eat and the yum factor was incredible... although I think that is heightened when it takes so long to cook and you smell the delicious flavour when the pot is opened to be checked. This day out looked like loads of fun!!! Did your fave end up winning? I came here via Dreemport today !PIZZA
