<div class="text-justify">It's been a while since I talked about Plague of Shadows, the first expansion for Shovel Knight, now it's my personal favorite's turn, starring Specter Knight: Specter of Torment.

Specter of Torment is a prequel to Shovel of Hope, which is why it happens before our beloved blue knight went looking for Shield Knight.

The quiet and melancholic Specter Knight will have an important mission given by The Enchantress, to gather an order of knights to swear allegiance to her and help her carry out his plans; indeed, it is Specter Knight that brings together what we know as the order of no quarter.

Of course, Specter Knight does not do this for the love of art, as The Enchantress promises him resurrection by gathering 8 knights to form the order. With that said, Specter Knight takes up his scythe and heads to fulfill his mission.

As a detail, Specter Knight constantly remembers his past life, which he longs to recover, we can see (rather, play) fragments of when he was still alive, and his name was Donovan.

At the end of the story many pieces will come together, for an outcome that I sincerely prefer not to gut you, because it easily has the best ending compared to the two previous campaigns that I have already commented, I clarify again that this is limited to being my personal opinion and not a try to impose my vision, feel free to express yours in the comments.

Gameplay

Personally, this seems to me the best gameplay of the 4 campaigns that make up Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, it is dynamic and even frantic when we do speedrun, but we are going little by little.

Offensively speaking, Specter Knight is equipped a little more normally than Shovel Knight and Plague Knight, since he has a scythe with which he makes melee cuts as a basic attack, however this is not airship, it will always be a horizontal attack where Specter is looking.

However, this is far from our only offensive option, because when we jump is that it gets interesting. Specter's jump is not very big, but other abilities make up for it, first, we can run a short distance through the walls, however, there are some where doing this is impossible, at maximum distance, Specter will do a pirouette and he will fall, unless we reach the top of the wall, or we have another to jump to, in which case Specter can run another short distance, this can be repeated as long as we jump from one wall to another.

As for attacks, we have the jump cut, which is a vertical cut oriented diagonally up or down, which we can use both to attack enemies, as well as to take momentum and reach high places, we can do it infinitely without touching the ground making it a powerful and effective technique to destroy our enemies.

In the levels we will find red skulls, which we can exchange for items, which would be the special objects that Specter can use as he obtains them, in this case each item comes with a small tutorial on how to use it, where we can use each object infinitely .

Also as in the other campaigns we will find life and magic improvements as we progress, this time they will be free and hidden in different levels, but we can always pay for them if we complete a level without knowing where the improvement is.

The scythe apart from being a weapon we can also use it as a skateboard, there are rails on which we can slide to overcome some sections of the levels, there is even an armor that we can equip ourselves to do this whenever we want, it has something positive because by doing this we can go over the spikes without suffering damage, as long as we are sliding, if we stop we will return to the last checkpoint as always.

As a positive point, the levels are very changed compared to what we have seen so far, and although there are similar sections everything is perfectly thought to overcome it based on Specter's movements, although you can feel some familiarity it would also pass perfectly as a game individual.

Another thing that stands out is that the game has many small details and winks here and there, those who come from Shovel of Hope or Plague of Shadows will surely find them and will outline a smile, it is obvious that every pixel of Specter of Torment It was done with love and dedication, a 10 for Yacht Club.

Something that was perhaps a little noticeable in Plague of Shadows, is that most of the music was the same as in Shovel of Hope, and although some themes are also repeated here, the number of new compositions created just for this expansion is even greater , even the initial level feels completely different with that beautiful background theme, mostly they are the same songs with different arrangements, but they are made in such a way that there is really no room for complaint, at least not in my case.</div>

Final Comments

<div class="text-justify">I discovered Shovel Knight when Specter of Torment had not yet come out, what's more, what caught my attention was a trailer for Specter of Torment that I saw back then, and then it was that I found out that it belonged to Shovel Knight, quite ironic.

After finishing SoT, the wait until King of Cards was literally eternal, it seems to me that the game leaves the bar so high that it was impossible to overcome it, however we will talk about King of Cards at another time.

Specter of Torment es una precuela de Shovel of Hope, por lo cual, ocurre antes de que nuestro querido caballero azul saliera en busca de Shield Knight.

El callado y melancólico Specter Knight tendrá una importante misión otorgada por La Hechicera, reunir a una orden de caballeros que le juren lealtad y le ayuden a llevar a cabo sus planes; efectivamente, es Specter Knight el que reúne a la que conocemos como la orden sin cuartel.

Claro está, Specter Knight no hace esto por amor al arte, pues La Hechicera le promete la resurrección al reunir 8 caballeros para formar la orden. Dicho esto, Specter Knight toma su guadaña y se dirige a cumplir su cometido.

Como un detalle, Specter Knight recuerda constantemente su vida pasada, la cual ansía recuperar, podemos ver (más bien, jugar) fragmentos de cuando aún estaba vivo, y se llamaba Donovan.

Al final de la historia muchas piezas se juntarán, para un desenlace que sinceramente prefiero no destriparles, pues fácilmente tiene el mejor final comparado al de las dos campañas anteriores que ya he comentado, aclaro nuevamente que esto se limita a ser mi opinión personal y no intento imponer mi visión, siéntanse libres de expresar la suya en los comentarios.

Gameplay

Personalmente, este me parece el mejor gameplay de las 4 campañas que componen Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, es dinámico y hasta frenético cuando hacemos speedrun, pero vamos poco a poco.

Ofensivamente hablando, Specter Knight está equipado de forma un poco más normal que Shovel Knight y Plague Knight, pues posee una guadaña con la cual hace tajos cuerpo a cuerpo como ataque básico, sin embargo este no es dirigible, siempre será un ataque horizontal hacia donde esté mirando Specter.

Sin embargo, esta dista de ser nuestra única opción ofensiva, pues cuando saltamos es que la cosa se pone interesante. El salto de Specter no es muy grande, pero otras habilidades lo compensa, primero, podemos correr una breve distancia por las paredes, sin embargo, existen algunas en las que hacer esto es imposible, llegados a la distancia máxima, Specter hará una pirueta y caerá, a menos que lleguemos a la cima de la pared, o que tengamos otra hacia la cual saltar, en dado caso Specter podrá correr otra breve distancia, esto puede repetirse siempre y cuando saltemos de una pared a otra.

En cuanto a ataques, tenemos el tajo en salto, es cual es un corte vertical orientado diagonalmente hacia arria o hacia abajo, el cual podemos usar tanto para atacar enemigos, como para tomar impulso y llegar a lugares elevados, podemos realizarlo infinitamente sin tocar el suelo por lo cual es una técnica poderosa y efectiva para acabar con nuestros enemigos.

En los niveles encontraremos cráneos rojos, los cuales podemos intercambiar por birrias, que vendrían siendo los objetos especiales que Specter puede utilizar conforme los obtenga, en este caso cada objeto viene con un pequeño tutorial de cómo utilizarlo, donde podremos usar cada objeto de forma infinita.

También como en el resto de campañas encontraremos mejoras de vida y magia conforme avancemos, esta vez serán gratuitas y están ocultas en diferentes niveles, pero siempre podemos pagar por ellas si completamos un nivel sin saber dónde se encuentra la mejora.

La guadaña aparte de ser un arma también podemos utilizarla de patineta, existen rieles sobre los cuales podemos deslizarnos para superar algunos tramos de los niveles, incluso hay una armadura que podemos equiparnos para hacer esto siempre que queramos, tiene algo positivo pues al hacer esto podemos pasar por encima de los pinchos sin sufrir daño, siempre y cuando nos estemos deslizando, si nos detenemos volveremos al punto de control como siempre.

Como punto positivo, los niveles están muy cambiados en comparación a los que hemos visto hasta ahora, y aunque hayan secciones similares todo está perfectamente pensado para superarlo en base a los movimientos de Specter, aunque se pueda sentir cierta familiaridad también pasaría perfectamente como un juego individual.

Otra cosa que destaco es que el juego tiene muchos pequeños detalles y guiños por aquí y por allá, aquellos que vengan de Shovel of Hope o Plague of Shadows seguramente los encontrarán y esbozarán una sonrisa, se nota a leguas que cada pixel de Specter of Torment fue hecho con mucho cariño y dedicación, un 10 para Yacht Club.

Algo que tal vez se notaba un poco en Plague of Shadows, es que la mayoría de la música era la misma que en Shovel of Hope, y aunque aquí también repiten algunos temas, es aún mayor la cantidad de composiciones nuevas creadas solo para esta expansión, hasta el nivel inicial se siente completamente distinto con ese precioso tema de fondo, mayormente se tratan de las mismas canciones con arreglos distintos, pero están hechas de semejante forma que no queda margen para la queja realmente, al menos no en mi caso.</div>

Comentarios Finales

<div class="text-justify">Yo descubrí Shovel Knight cuando Specter of Torment aún no había salido, es más, lo que me llamó la atención fue un trailer de Specter of Torment que vi por aquel entonces, y luego fue que me enteré que pertenecía a Shovel Knight, bastante irónico.

Luego de terminar SoT, la espera hasta King of Cards se me hizo literalmente eterna, me parece que el juego deja el listón tan alto que era imposible superarlo, sin embargo ya hablaremos de King of Cards en otro momento.
