I was caught up and I did not speak a word while those four soldiers led me to the gathering place. The morning was already light and I was standing on a large square in the eastern part of the city, while the other soldiers brought some more boys of my age. Even younger ones. We stood there eager as the sun rose in the sky and waited. Those who knew each other were talking to each other but quietly. Silence, silence of expectation, could be heard everywhere in the square. Only in the face of a few person could you see the joy of going to the army, because the military profession was considered one of the most profane professions that a person can have. Sometimes the exclamations of soldiers who tried to keep order on the square were heard. Somewhere around noon, the officers in shiny armor or in green uniforms appeared and through the masses of people rushed to the center of the square. There was a small platform on which they climbed. There were also three tables with stacks of paper on this platform. Given that I came among the first, I was close to that platform where the officers stood now and I could clearly see every person standing in front of me.

An elderly man, without armor, a seamlessly flared uniform, stood in front of the other officers and said in a clear voice, *Young men, today you will enter the service of your homeland. I see here various faces, although you do not know each other now, in a few months the man standing next to you, or behind you will be closer to you than your brother. Our homeland is in danger, and it needs to be defended. You will be the pillar of defense around which our homeland will rise again to the place it belongs to be. Now the Captains will come to you and arrange you in three rows. You will meet our scribes, and you will be entrusted with military books and then assigned to the ranks.* In his eyes, you can see that it was not for the first time that this was done, his voice was giving security.

The Captains descended from the platform, the five of them began to sort us out. That's how they came to me, and after few questions, I  stood in line behind a lower blond guy who looked nervously in all directions. I was calm, I was never violent and words like war and army were not common in my people. I met them only in old books of history. I did not know to I use any weapons, and I did not even know what I could do in the army. But I realized that from here there was no escape, I waited for the path of fate to take me away.

We stood in lines until late, and around midnight, everything was over. All I told them was frankly but they did not believe me, and they put me in a unit for spearman, although I did not even know how to hold a spear. They did not care about my meddles so I could go to help as a military doctor. They said that I did not pass the prescribed education for such a thing. We were sent to the barracks, and when I came, I saw that nervous guy sleeping in a distant corner, while the other twenty-eight guys talk to each other.
