One thing on my island that will totally amaze you is sparkle, the way the salt crystals sparkle under the sun is magical and looks like a field of diamonds that would not be out of place in any fairy tail.
You only see this phenomenon when the company harvests the salt. Most people think that the salt is small like you have it in your kitchen and you just scoop it up but that is not the case.
Did you know that when the salt is ready to be hardest it is a thick layer of about 50 cm. One big chunk of salt, it looks like big ice rink.
When they harvest the salt they have to break it and scrape it and later at the plant they crush it in three different shapes.
The bigger salt crystals go to the industry that makes water softeners. The smaller crystals are being used in the body products industry and soaps and the small crystals go to the roads in the USA when there are blizzards and it is used for kitchen salt industry.

The process of making salt is very easy, you can do it at home and it's for free.
Water from the ocean is for free, the sun is for free and the wind is for free and these three working together makes the salt.
The spalke right before harvest is my favorite moment, I love sparkle even as a child.
My grandparents had a store and sold crystal chandeliers.
I remember walking into the store as a child when we visited and I always looked up to the ceiling that was filled with beautiful sparkling crystal chandeliers that looked like diamonds and impressed me so much that I am still a sparkle nut.

In part 2. of "A field of diamonds", I will tell you what happens to the water that turns pink during the process and why.
