Finding Pennywise and Tweaking FrankenSteem -- Learning to Draw and Use an Old Cintiq Tablet [Art]

The last drawing I posted was of Frankenstein whom I now call FrankenSTEEM. I am still working on editing and coloring that one. Since it is all a learning process for me, it does go slow. I also have other responsibilities in life that I must also tend to, so that also interferes with my drawing time, and my learning time. Drawing and learning to use an electronic drawing tablet do take time. Obviously having natural ability at drawing helps of which I wish I had more. Then there is so much to learn from techniques to shading to proportions and so on. Then there is actually drawing on an electronic tablet and how that "feel" changes from pencil and paper to literally drawing on a glass surface.

So to change it up, I freehanded a sketch of Pennywise the Clown from Stephen King's Movie "IT." I quickly sketched the clown and then re-edited. It was much better than the image you see here. The image I am posting was the initial rough sketch. After re-assessing the image and then editing, the new version looked so much more like the new Pennywise. Unfortunately I tried re-editing that version and simply lost it. I wound up deleting it and not saving it. I now regret doing that and wish I would have saved the better version. Now all I have is this phone picture I took of the initial sketch. If I would have saved the improved version I would have had a very nice starting point. I figured I could do it again better. Now I am going to have to do it from scratch, but better, and this time I will remember to hit the SAVE button!

Frankensteem looking pretty nice! I also have a pen tablet (wacom) and am in the process of getting back into drawing myself. Where do you recommend I start, with line art and tracing?

Drawing is a lot of fun, but as you said is very time consuming.

First off I have no schooling in art at least. I did have an art class in high school once but that was it. I mostly just doodle with pencil and paper, especially when stuck on the phone.

I have always admired how graphic artists could digitize their drawings and thought it would be cool if I could do so too. So that how I recently acquired a used Cintiq tablet by Wacom. 

The first thing that I did was learn to setup a brush that feels like a pencil on paper. Now I am learning how to free hand sketch on the tablet. It does take a little getting used to because when using the tablet it feels like you are drawing on glass, and not paper. The texture/ roughness you feel with pencil/paper is not quite there. 

Now that I am getting a feel for it, the next thing I plan to learn is line art and coloring. That is where I am now. But you should definitely get back into drawing. It is a great mindscape.

Heya @streetstyle, thanks for getting back to me so fast! 

That makes a lot of sense why using tablets feel weird at first because lack of friction. I originally used mine as a video game controller and not to draw, so I'm gonna have an uphill battle learning how to draw and to draw digitally as well.

I want to learn how to do pixel art specifically, to achieve a retro gaming look. I think that would be really fun and help improve art and feel I'll have in my blog coming up. 

I agree definitely, drawing is a great form of expression, and a valuable skill to pick up. Thank you again for the insight! :3
