After the latest bitcoin halving, the current breakeven point for a bitcoin mining operator is $12,000 per bitcoin. But the current price of the bitcoin is $8,800 which forces the bitcoin miners to sell more than what they mine from their inventory in order to pay for the operating costs. That, in turn, is likely to increase the supply, put more pressure bitcoin price and push the price even further down below $8,000. As a result, paid miners will be forced to halt mining and there is a risk of many mining operations going out of business.

This makes joining free bitcoin mining pools attractive because free mining pools operate with borrowed CPU power of the pool members thus passing on the major part of the operating costs to members.
