Jeff John Roberts reports in decrypt.co that "the upstart blockchain Solana, which some have dubbed a potential "Ethereum killer," has raised a large amount of money to scale up its ambitions, which include becoming a go-to home for decentralized applications, or dapps.

Solana appears positioned to be a leading challenger to Ethereum in the fast evolving world of decentralized apps, which primarily revolve around finance, but are also coming to encompass gaming and media.



The primary appeal of Solana, according to its boosters, is that it is faster and less expensive than Ethereum. The project claims its maximum throughput is more than 50,000 transactions per second. Ethereum averages between 10 and 15 transactions per second.



Solana's design as a proof-of-stake blockchain means transactions cost pennies, which is a big contrast to Ethereum where soaring fees have sometimes obliged users to pay hundreds of dollars to process transactions."

A missed opportunity for Hive Blockchain? In addition to all the technical advantages, we are fee less.

However, there is one big niche that neither Ethereum nor Solana are currently catering for - small businesses and projects that could be started by people without technical or financial resources. It could be done, if we could develop a front-end for Hive-Engine tokens that could be operated by these people without doing any coding. I am not sure if that is feasible, maybe a tech-savvy Hiver could enlighten me about it!
