A Step Towards More Efficient Biofuel!

Recently a major breakthrough has been made in an attempt to create biofuel efficiently using engineered algae.<br>
Scientists have found a way to produce a new kind of organisms that double the amount of oil they produce, compared to all previously known varieties.<br>
Researchers claim to have increased the amount of oil production by engineered algae from 20% to astonishing 40 percent .<br>
The algae converts carbon dioxide to fat in. This technology is far from being used commercially.<br>

Scientists say that they will try to increase algae’s ability to convert the sun’s energy into biomass to increase fat production even more.<br>
<br>
The research is being conducted by <a href="https://www.syntheticgenomics.com/exxonmobil-and-synthetic-genomics-report-breakthrough-in-algae-biofuel-research/">Synthetic Genome, Inc</a> together with <a href="https://energyfactor.exxonmobil.com/science-technology/fat-fit-algae-biofuel/">ExxonMobil</a>. Everything began in 2009, in an attempt to create a more efficient ways make biofuel than by using corn. Scientists hope that they will be able to reduced the level of greenhouse gas emissions, while at the same time eliminate the problem with biofuel production taking over agricultural land.<br>

Some microalgae naturally produce up to 40%, Nannochloropsis the one I work with goes to 32%, but I have heard of numbers up to 70% from genetically engineered microalgae species. Also nutritional stress would induce higher lipid accumulation, so in the case of nano it could go up to 50% with nitrogen depletion.

Efficient biofuel would be amazing, because it has so many applications.  It could even run airplanes if we got it cheap enough!
