>Yet, they think they are the smartest generations to ever live. It's worse than you think. If the whole thing goes to hell in a handbasket they couldn't even put together the smallest of gadgets to survive. My grand daughter and I were at the store picking up some last minutes things for a picnic and fishing trip down to the park. After she scanned all the stuff and I was paying for it she asked if she could put the stuff in the basket. I told her yeah. I should have double checked as I put the fishing hooks and barbers in a separate bag to go with the other tackle stuff instead of the food. The bag probably looked like it didn't have anything in it so she didn't notice and we left it accidently. I went back after we noticed we didn't have the items and ask the clerk if anyone turned in any hooks and barbers. He looked at me like he had no idea what I just asked. What?, he replied, and I said fishing hooks and barbers. He said no and to go ask the service desk. The same thing happened there but included a dumbfounded expression. I always thought of it as a rather basic thing, if someone put hooks and barbers in the same question one wouldn't have to add fish to it to know what you were talking about.

I don't think many kids get to go fishing anymore, too busy with the flashylight boxes and other forms of entertainment. Soon they won't know what the rotary dial on a telephone or tv even does, nor that they existed.

Outside of Saturday morning cartoons or rain we were always outside. My dad was always packing us up in the family station wagon and taking us down to the river. That was before things went really south between my mom and dad but I go down there now remembering all the things we use to do, unsupervised at that, they'd just fling open the car door and off we went, now a days would have people calling child protective service. My dad was pretty stern though when it came to area's of the river that'd take us right along with it, as long as we stayed within the boundaries of safe areas he was okay with whatever we were doing. There was parts of the river that was a sandbar almost completely across it, the only time of year we weren't allowed there was the spring when the water was high. We had plenty of other things to do though when the river was high into the park, as the water receded there was plenty of fish to spear left in those giant puddles in the grass.

I remember three channels and saturday cartoons, too. That time is gone for all intents and purposes. Now the flashylight boxes rule. So much of the history we got through culture is now not mentioned. The world lost something when John Wayne left the paradigm. Violence lost its honor and purpose. [The Spectacle](https://hyperallergic.com/313435/an-illustrated-guide-to-guy-debords-the-society-of-the-spectacle/) rules now from behind the scenes. You can't know what you don't know, nor that you don't know it. The unknown unknowns can bite you from the aether.
