I thought fiver was for small jobs that cost $5.

$5 wouldn't even cover the time to talk to you about what color you want your website to be, let alone anything else.  A professional web page designer is several hundred dollars and up.  And, up front you look at pages they have done, and then you see if you communicate well with them.  Then you spend a month of emails and page updates.

I suggest you look into wordpress.  Just fooling around with it will probably give you the page you want.  And if not, there are lots of tutorials on it.  And, every web developers knows wordpress, so if you get things close and want to pay for finishing touches, its easy.

I have been wondering about Fiverr and their quality of work. Thanks for sharing.

I think it depends on the seller. I can design my own book covers, but sometimes I don't have time, Or I want to see another take on the book, So I hire a fiverr designer. Some of them have been awful, others have been incredible. 

One of my bad experiences was an audio book :( I paid like 70.00 and he sent me all the wrong file types and such, I was never able to get it to work. So I lost the money,  I wish they had a better "disputing Process".

But I definitely know what you mean on the quality,  Some people on there require so much instruction that its not worth your time! I like the go-getters who I can just slap a basic idea, and they be creative with it! 

Here are some designs I was only charged 5.00 for, But I ended up giving tips because I really liked the results. These were done by the same guy on Fiverr, Because I really ended up liking his work. I purchase from him often.

I guess you just picked a wrong guy. Or it was a wrong time... I've been selling my little doodles on fiverr for years as a hobby, so it's seems kinda easy job, but even I have my ups and downs :)

Each time I ordered something on fiverr it was done in like an hour and it worked :) This is just because I ordered a really simple stuff.

I think fiverr is the best for little simple or fun projects. Something that's not hurting you if it gets canceled. 
Or something design/illustration related, because in that case you can always see sellers portfolio before ordering a gig.
