Futures generally are standardized contracts that are traded on a centralized exchange. They are an agreement between two parties to buy or sell a particular asset at a specified future price. Although the first futures contracts were mainly focused on agricultural commodities, the market has expanded and now extends to a wide range of assets including digital assets. Digital asset futures are futures contracts where the underlying commodity is digital assets and are usually based on its price on exchanges.

Futures markets cut out many hassles for traders, hassles like high costs and having to pay the full price of the commodity being traded and storing it. As a result, futures markets reduce friction and costs and makes price trading easier.

Understandably, traders are drawn to markets with high liquidity but transaction fees are still very high especially on huge volumes of trade. High transaction fees place infringements on the growth and potential liquidity of futures market.

In order to retain liquidity while encouraging active traders, Digitex Futures Exchange eliminates transaction fees. Instead of charging traders fees for facilitating liquidity, Digitex will cover operational costs by using the Digitex token (DGTX) built on the Ethereum blockchain. The DGTX token will be the basic currency used on the Digitex Futures exchange.

Since transaction fees are the channel through which most exchanges generate revenue, the Digitex team uses a novel and innovative model to generate revenue. Digitex futures exchange will generate revenue by minting and selling a small quantity of DGTX tokens annually. New tokens will be issued based on decentralized governance on the blockchain which will involve all digitex token holders.

A collective decision will be made on the quantity of new tokens to be issued and when they would be issued. Most of the generated funds would be channeled into maintaining the exchange and this would increase the demand for the DGTX tokens and retain its utility since most transactions will be done using DGTX. Traders will have to own digitex tokens because profits, losses, margin requirements and account balances will all be done with the digitex token.

<center>**The Trustless Trading Functionality of the Digitex Futures Exchange**</center>


Digitex futures exchange implements another feature on their exchange that contributes to the liquidity of futures trading on their exchange – Trustless trading. This function allows traders on the digitex exchange to trade without having to entrust their money to the exchange. This is one unique approach to futures trading because existing futures exchanges do not offer this function.

Digitex futures exchange combines a centralized matching engine for efficient trade settlements and order matching of traders ’ orders  with a decentralized Ethereum smart contract to form a hybrid exchange that is a solution to many of the limitations facing a decentralized exchange. 

Basically, this is how it works – the Digitex exchange does not have access to anyone’s private keys and neither does it hold trader’s account balance. A decentralized, self-sustained smart contract on the Ethereum network holds the account balances, hence, when a trade is initiated, the exchange passes information regarding the traders’ outstanding margin liabilities, profits and losses. In effect, the account is updated without the exchange possessing the funds.

The centralized matching engine is more beneficial when compared to decentralized exchanges. The latency of on-chain order book does not allow real time trading and can be expensive. Also, using an on-chain matching engine prevents trustless trading because margin trading where the trader does not deposit the full value of the contract being traded is not yet possible on-chain, therefore a centralized matching engine would work better to achieve the goal.
