Installing and setting up GrapheneOS on Pixel 6 (1)
# English version below

---

Hallo,

> Device or resource busy.

Nun, mal schauen, was schon funkioniert und was nicht :)

Hello,

after my Pixel 6 finally arrived today, I will dedicate myself to setting up GrapheneOS. Funnily enough, because today(!) (or yesterday? am not 100% sure) the first version (Warning: Highly experimental!) came out.

Random images:

![output-PXL_20211201_145222658.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/t-nil/243M74YijRnUq7nBKaNB4UjKcVSURjB2XgARiT4cDuKU7M1nySz376vNLG8sSUaQF3szY.jpg)

Anyway, a few interesting things ahead:

- The fingerprint sensor is down front behind the display; you sort of put your finger on the bottom of the front panel. Unfortunately not yet supported by Graphene :( but as I said, it's only day 1/2!
- The phone can Reverse Wireless Charging! Which means I can charge *other phones* with my new phone.
- Had a bit of a struggle just getting it down unfortunately. Am used to it from pretty much all Android smartphones since 2012 that long pressing the power button opens the shutdown menu. On the Pixel 6, it's now apparently Power+VolumeUp, which took me way too long. I just didn't want to believe that long pressing the power button now opens Google Assistant ... Well

Since @fw206 had also asked yesterday how safe the whole thing was in terms of can you break something: I talked again with my colleague; our understanding of the whole situation is that the smartphones of the last few years virtually all have a Qualcomm chip. This in turn has an EDL, an Emergency Download Mode, which is virtually impossible to destroy via software. Quasi a ROM bootloader. The new Pixel 6 does not have a Qualcomm chip and therefore does not have an EDL mode, but since Google has been building the bootloaders for years in such a way that you do not have to go that deep to install custom ROMs, we really could not imagine that anything could break permanently. A person in the GrapheneOS support channel on Matrix then confirmed this assumption: It is impossible to *break* anything, only data loss might occur with the first beta and alpha builds.

That's enough for me, and I'm a student.

Fastboot fun

Anyway: After the first few steps of the tutorial (https://grapheneos.org/install/cli , WebInstaller for Pixel 6 is not supported yet) went smoothly, at least on Manjaro Linux, *fastboot* actually hung up with the message
> Device or resource busy.

What I could have guessed already, was confirmed by another nice person from the above mentioned channel: Something is blocking the handle to the USB connection to the phone. Since I didn't know what, and it could also be a ghost connection from a previous WebInstaller attempt, I had to reboot.

That probably helped. Currently I look at the log and there are only OKAYs to see.

![Screenshot_2021-12-01_23-39-46.png](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/t-nil/23tbPKxrBSPEBxRvSY8zTKrVBkDJSg6QjhFYJVJs7FRrm7phhardjrAUxezHk8sEvQLx9.png)

I guess if your log looks something like this, everything should be okay.

### First boot

(after relocking the bootloader to de facto prevent attacks by physical access)

I guess this is supposed to be a representation of graphene?

Well, let's see what works and what doesn't :)
