**Greetings, dear hives of #familyfriends!
Today I want to share with you the wonderful experience we lived, transforming our day of hard work into an enjoyable day, full of tradition, in which we prepared delicious tamales together as a family.
To begin with, I must tell you that the night before this special day, a tree in the back lot of our house broke due to an intense breeze, falling most of it on our side of the lot. This tree is one of the trees that border my lot with our neighbors.**

Para comenzar, debo contarles que la noche anterior a este día tan especial, un árbol en el terreno trasero de nuestra casa se quebró debido a una brisa intensa, cayendo la mayor parte en nuestro lado del terreno. Este árbol es uno de los que delimitan mi terreno con el de nuestros vecinos.*

**At dawn, my husband got up early without telling us and started cutting the tree with an axe to clear it. Seeing him work so hard, we joined in to collaborate and make his work more bearable and pleasant.**

**Out of this situation came a really different day, in which the three of us gathered in the backyard to enjoy a special day. We decided to prepare a Cuban recipe for tamales with pork, which made us even more excited.
We set up a table on the patio, under the shade of another tree, and used a large pot of firewood that my husband had previously chopped. Although it generated some smoke at first, we managed to control it and were able to cook the tamales properly.**

*De esta situación surgió un día realmente diferente, en el cual los tres nos reunimos en el patio para disfrutar de una jornada especial. Decidimos preparar una receta cubana de tamales con carne de cerdo, lo cual nos entusiasmó aún más.
Colocamos una mesa en el patio, bajo la sombra de otro árbol, y utilizamos una olla grande con leña que mi esposo había cortado previamente. A pesar de que generaba algo de humo al principio, logramos controlarlo y pudimos cocinar los tamales adecuadamente.*

**We never used to go to this part of the yard because on the other side, our neighbors have sheep and cows. I thought they smelled bad, but to be honest, they didn't; the only thing I felt was a nice breeze. The atmosphere was full of enthusiasm and joy. Everyone had their own assigned task: my husband was in charge of the fire, my son shelled and ground the corn, and I was in charge of shucking the seasonings and preparing the meat. I always helped peel the corn, since there was plenty of it.**

*A esta parte del patio nunca solíamos ir porque del otro lado, nuestros vecinos tienen ovejas y vacas. Yo creía que tenían mal olor, pero siendo honesta, no era así; lo único que sentía era una brisa agradable. El ambiente estaba lleno de entusiasmo y alegría. Cada uno tenía asignada su tarea: mi esposo se encargaba del fuego, mi hijo pelaba y molía el maíz, y yo me ocupaba de pelar los aliños y preparar la carne. Siempre ayudaba a pelar maíz, ya que era bastante.*

**As we worked filling the corn husks with the dough, we shared anecdotes and laughed, turning this work into a special moment that strengthened our family ties.
We finished assembling the tamales, placed them in the pot and waited for them to cook. One of the good things was that there was no waste left over, as the neighbor gave us permission to give the leftover gophers and leaves to her animals, which was beneficial for me.**

*Mientras trabajábamos rellenando las hojas de maíz con la masa, compartimos anécdotas y risas, convirtiendo esta labor en un momento especial que fortalece nuestros lazos familiares.
Terminamos de armar los tamales, los colocamos en la olla y esperamos a que se cocinaran. Una de las cosas buenas fue que no quedó desecho, ya que la vecina nos autorizó a darle las tuzas y hojas sobrantes a sus animales, lo cual fue beneficioso para mí.*

**The delicious aroma of the tamales cooking over a wood fire reminded us of the importance of keeping our family traditions alive. When we tasted the tamales fresh out of the pot, we knew that all the effort had been worth it. Spending the day together in the backyard, a place we never used to frequent, turned out to be a refreshing and unforgettable experience.**
