I love work.

*Don't kink shame.*

It is not that I love all parts of work and I definitely haven't loved all of the work I have done, but in general, I really do enjoy working and I am glad that I get to often do things that I am both good at and are valuable to the world in some way. It has been a long time where I have felt that what I do is meaningless. Yet likely, some of it is.

They say that things come in threes and I have two core jobs and one *very demanding* hobby. The jobs take up a lot of my time, the hobby takes up more, but I am lucky, as the hobby gives we the *freedom* to work when and how I want and for over four years, I have been hobbying daily here on Hive. Nightly too. 

Most of my writing is done at night after my family is in bed, but on the weekends, I have more opportunity to hobby at different times, so that I can spend a couple hours in the morning writing a post for example, and a couple hours later in the evening doing the same, with a lot of time still available to do other things. 

Since mid-2017, I haven't missed a day posting, which means that I haven't missed a day of work in what is coming up to four years this summer. I have actually only missed a handful of days in the entirety of my blockchain life. Now, this is work, even though it is a hobby, because my intention is for it to provide more than just the enjoyment of doing it, as I see it as an investment vehicle also. 

I think one of the reasons I have done relatively well at my hobby, is that I invest into both sides of the journey, I pay attention to the hobby side of my writing and give it my all each day and, I pay attention to the earning side of the ledger, where I not only look to earn, but also try to help others along their journey in various ways. I think I have helped a few on both sides of that too, where some get the enjoyment and the financial reward of Hive, by paying attention to what they are doing, rather than just randomly moving. 

The hobby is kind of like playing tennis, where if interested, there are a lot of skills to learn and a person can improve across various disciplines within. Another person could never learn how to serve, work on their fitness, volley or run down a short ball near the net. Each could have a lot of fun, but not like the way the other plays.

Now, while I do like to work and it is available to do 24 hours a day, I unfortunately have to sleep occasionally also. I have never like sleeping, as there is just far too much of interest to do to waste time laying down in bed - sleeping. But, since I am able to *choose* when I work and what I do, even sleeping I can do a bit of work. In fact, I now work 24-hours a day.

Over the years, I have invested myself, my money and my experience into my work and over time it has grown to be larger than it was, as effort tends to compound when complementary tasks are performed. My earnings are representative of my work both on and off chain and how I use my earnings will affect the value of my past work, in the future. What I mean is if for example I earn a hundred dollars from a say's work and spend it on a nice meal, that 100 dollars can earn no more - meaning that the day that I earned it will only ever be worth 100 dollars. Yet, if I invest it and it doubles in value, that day's work is worth 200 dollars. 

What this means is that the value of a day's work is not bound to that 24 hour period, it is affected by how the outcomes of that day are used. For a recent example of work working past the time it was earned, we can use the liquidity pools of CUB.

Lets say that yesterday I earned 100 dollars and stuck it into the CUB-BUSD liquidity pools. The current rate will change heavily over time so this is not a static rate by any measure, but it gives a good example of interes working 24-hours a day.

That $100 would attract ~3.1 CUB a day, which is worth about 12 dollars. So the ROI is 12%. Yes, in a day. This means that yesterday's work that was worth 100 dollars, is now worth 112 dollars. All things remaining equal (they won't), by the end of the week, almost 32 CUB will be earned on the 100 dollars, which is a crazy, 120 dollars. So, Yesterday's work is now worth 220 dollars. 

There is a reason that once well off, people don't actually have to work that much, even though many do because, they love their work. It isn't even necessarily about the greed for money, they just genuinely want to keep doing what they love and the money is a byproduct of their activity. However, they do have ownership of it and most don't want to put it under their mattress, so they invest, which will mean that the work they do will keep increasing in value as what they earn keeps earning. What this means is that while time is money and that passed time can never be relived, the money earned from spending that time is essentially time "frozen" that can be used again. 

This might be obvious to many people, but I am relatively knew to this, meaning that it isn't the way I was brought up to think. Money doesn't actually work for us, but what it does do is becomes a store of value for our work and while we can use that value to consume, we can also use it to earn. I have been a hodler for years and while the value in the bullmarket is seeing my hodlings increase in value, it is only now that I am putting my past work, back to work. Well, a portion of it. Okay, I have been staking on Hive and earning on my frozen work here since the start too, but this has been a very active process and has been done in conjunction with practical work daily. 

What I am hoping is that my invested frozen work will not only make my past work far more valuable, but it will also be used to support the work of others who will hopefully do the same, until we are all working at more of what we enjoy, as well as holding portfolios of our frozen past work, so that we are all banked, all owners. 

What I have found though is that not everyone is cut out for this, as many live hand to mouth, even if it isn't necessary. Yes, I know that many face hard times, but when the same people are smoking, drinking and buying consumable gadgets that have no value, I can't help but think that they aren't serious about wanting greater well-being in their lives. Some people I know live pay to pay and their paycheck is far larger than mine. Somewhere in life, we have to take responsibility for ourselves, don't we?

I digress.

There is no real "point" to this article, other than presenting some of my own experience in coming to the current stage where the past four years of 24-play, has allowed me to start earning a little more on previous earnings, making my past more financially valuable than it was at the time I lived it. Is it strange to look at it in this way?

I see it all as an alignment issue, as *when* something gets done is potentially more important than what actually gets done. Doing the right thing at the wrong time, doesn't work. There will be a time in the future where my past earnings will be used in a more consumptive way, but to do so *at this time* would mean to miss out on a lot of opportunities at this time in the same way as if the potential didn't exist at all. Potential only has value when realized. 

Anyway, I think that is enough hobbying for one day as I have a lot of work to do tomorrow and my useless body still needs some sleep to function effectively. However, while I sleep, my past work will be working for me around the place in the present, adding value to what I once did and raising opportunities for what I am going to later do.
