My friend @tarazkp, machines may be able to do things faster, with more details, things that we are not able to do by hand (like the processor in your PC), but the way they do it has been programmed by man, based on man's creativity, it's like the HIVE algorithm.

In the 1970s, the same was true of the proliferation of computers and then of telephones and other screens. In the end, human beings will get used to all these changes. **I am optimistic that the future will be fantastic.**

The funny thing is... is that the Luddites weren't against technology at all, they were against the machinery that was replacing workers and producing lesser quality products (textiles specifically)... which is what we should all be against.  

As consumers, why should we pay the same or more for less good quality products?

If you ever see someone who’s really wanting a gadget so bad especially the youth, just have in mind that it is for entertainment. I don’t think it will ever be their plan to buy it just for normal use. 
So many people want to run away from the realities of life by checking so many fake things online to give them temporary happiness 

I was also a bit of a technology person but I avoid a bunch of it like the plague because of how dangerous the stuff is for those that wish to do us harm. It's a slow cancer, with it growing and growing before it ultimately infects it all. 

I think the important thing is to have that with certain things. For example, I REFUSE and make comments to everybody that I know has one, to accept any of the "smart" devices in my home. Smart speaker, thermostat, washer whatever the hell it is, it's got fully nefarious intent behind it. None of this stuff is egalitarian, it's all meant to surveil us and allow the companies to sell our data. I even had a friend of mine take his stupid Alexa device out of the room when I visited because I didn't want it to listen for the simple fact that it had no business doing so.

That being said though, it behooves us to be familiar with the tech, how it works and things of that nature for the simple fact of competitive edge. I don't know all the ins and outs of those things but I do have a basic understanding of it, and I think that at a minimum is good to have.

Social pressure for conformity is pretty wild these days! 

I don't fear tech, I just fear our capacity to use it responsibly. This includes myself. Recently I have cut back on my BS TV watching, YouTube gazing, and deleted most social media. I used to be more in touch with the latest trends, but since retiring, I want nothing to do with the field anymore. My son calls me a *Boomer*. I wonder if he knows the term *Luddite*? I doubt it or he would have used it on me already.

I think originally a Luddite wasn't totally anti-tech. They were more concerned about how a specific technology impacted on their jobs. Not entirely different to how most of us are concerned about AI right now. So in that sense, we are all Luddites. 

Anyway, hope you enjoy your Kindle. I also prefer physical books. I like the feel, I like the smell, I like seeing them on my bookshelf. At the same time, I can't deny the convenience of the Kindle. I can hold it in one hand, read at night, take my library with me anywhere, and the e-ink display is so crisp and easy to read. It's probably my favorite tech device.

I definitely prefer audiobooks, but besides my consumption of Hive content and a few other sports/splinterlands sites, I'm not really reading much at all. Everything else comes from streaming/youtube platforms. When you take a step back, it really does make you think where is all this time going?! I need to use this energy, defend my frays, and crush these tournaments. To the battle fields!!!

Same question posed recently, I pondered the _consumption_ side of how do youth will be able to put knowledge to good use. 

Growing up we were told you learn, teach then grow. Consume knowledge as if filling a jug, then teach via sharing or putting into practice, in so doing emptying half jug,  start learning once again, this way knowledge is retained. Full no more is able to be absorbed.

Writing physically into a book, taking notes, one retains extra through hand, eye, memory, simply reading or learning parrot fashion disappears over time.

AI does bother one with how it will be implemented, not something I would bat for in a hurry, musicians, artists may stand to lose thought provoking initiatives. AI needs to be addressed for benefits and/or risk.

 

The youths today are exposed much knowledge through digital channels but they don't know how to apply the knowledge properly. Maybe there's an abuse somewhere 

I think people losing jobs to technology has been the norm for the longest time. It was normally the blue collar jobs though, and a lot of people thought that the white collar jobs will be safe for longer time. So now that it is happening to both at the same time, it is pretty scary, and people don't know what to do. I think people should just start working on their dreams, and do what they wanted to do.

Honestly, I just feel like I’m getting worse. The past few months have taught me how harmful the usage of too many gadgets or how harmful it can be to make use of gadgets all the time
Now, it’s quite unfortunate that I’m getting too much used to it even though all I do with my gadgets is work.
I’m about to start using glasses because it is affecting my eye and I don’t know how to stop this addiction 

Actually, a lot of people don't realise that Luddites were not agasint technology per se. They were against the fact that technology could take away their jobs and workers rights. 

I love technology - but I would probably say I'm a Luddite too. If it takes away meaning and purpose in our lives, then we have a problem. 

I have to say I'm a big fan of audiobooks. I don't like Kindles, though I've tried them - they actually do have research that suggests you absorb more reading a physical book over an ebook. When you drive alot or even go on long walks, audiobooks and podcasts are so good! 

Wow I just learned a new word from this blog Luddite. Pretty educational. But with all honesty, it's so true, gadgets today seem more about entertainment than utility. Kindle is very good. I have a 2016 model and I read almost every day. I also download school literature for children there. I also have a large book with Lomonosov e-ink, but the Kindle is better.
And I remembered my first push-button smartphone in 2004 on Windows. It was a great time for technology development. My friends were surprised that you can watch videos on your phone. I told them that in 5-10 years video movies will be on every phone.

One area that machines can't excel is creativity. We can see that right here on Hive!
