Driving through the rain
<div class="text-justify">

Sell! Sell! Sell! The markets are crashing!

Oh.

 *That was yesterday...*

Rainy, sunny, rainy, sunny, rainy, rainy, rainy.... sunny?

![IMG_20210819_160607.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/tarazkp/23w2jHRofzBPzLqebCSZ2RLnn2oKKLwET3cjycv6QrKss6rnW8C1UgRHSVcWg31b3oRZu.jpg)

Facing the unlikely, but possible prospect of not being able to earn as I have though my official work, I have to consider other sources of income. Thankfully, I do have options. Unfortunately, many of them need crypto earnings to supplement, like stacking shelves at the supermarket.

Sure, that might be a last resort and I will likely have some options before that, but at least for me, it is interesting to think about what kinds of options might be available. In a country where I don't speak the language well enough to work professionally in it, nor do I have my master's in a specialized field, jobs that pay well are somewhat rare, which is why I started my business in the first place.

![IMG_20210819_160551.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/tarazkp/23xp8dnvayd12Xp87hDBBNvAri5vgjmEXn3LthFdHV4QXi1UvNN3qYZyA2bTFKeQnyBbP.jpg)

Funnily, I got my second job to add some more security, as being self-employed doesn't come with a lot of perks and the income can be very up and down - but rarely great. Plus, it is always one step away from being unemployed and I haven't been that in a very long time and don't plan on being it anytime soon.

But as I have said before, I don't really mind what kind of work I do in order to pay the bills, but ultimately, I would like to pick and choose my work on what I consider important. What is interesting in this regard is that they keep pushing the age of retirement up and up, as the population keeps aging and they keep borrowing more debt on the future, debt that has to be paid back by those to come. I have approximately 25 years left until I can retire, but if things keep going the way they are, that might be 35 years and I will be nearing eighty.

But, what kinds of jobs are going to be available for people at that age?

![IMG_20210819_160558.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/tarazkp/23xefXWWt1ErmpuGoMi8nvgqimgfKTjYhzhmAsPLzD2Gbr44rhk8gswmBtooKhw8jRhFg.jpg)

Not much I suspect, but I assume that things are going to change markedly in that time and while there is the potential for a great deal of improvement, there is also room for a lot of degradation. I reckon that there is going to be a lot more rain before any lengthy period of sunshine, but perhaps that is always the case.

Even now when the world is falling into an economic abyss, it definitely isn't a problem for everyone. The problem is, that it is only a sliver minority that are truly benefiting at this time and it will get increasingly worse the longer it continues along this tract. If however a new economy can be built to replace what is currently on offer, perhaps there could be a shift in the way we organize ourselves so that more can benefit.

There is no security in this world, all that is available is risk management. The biggest risk is perhaps sitting back and taking the approach that everything will work out for the best, because that is not really the way it goes. Or at least, if everything works out for the best, it simultaneously works out for the worst. Nature doesn't have a preference of which, making everything a zero point.

>Starting from zero.

I think that we have all felt like we have done that at least once in our lives and probably, multiple times. During these periods, we consider how we got here, where we want to be and how we are going to get there. Some people spin out of control and are unable to find a direction to travel, some people move with intense purpose - but all of us go through these similar experiences, feel similar feelings and have similar fears. How we handle our experiences can change a lot though.

For me, I am definitely not in the worst condition I could be, considering that I could literally be dead or worse, a vegetable in a wheelchair. This means that I have more options than the zero of death and more than the near zero of complete incapacitation. So, there is hope. The outcome might not be ideal, but neither were the events that led to them, because nothing is ever ideal - it just is what it is.

Over the coming months I am going to have to do a lot of work to get myself back on track toward being where I want to be in just about every facet of my life, but I have to be prepared for the inevitable failures along the way. I am glad though that because of what I have done in the last years, I can rest a little easier that at least if the traditional streams fail, I have a small safety net and trickles to help me get through and find my feet again. If this had happened a half dozen years ago, it would have been a very different journey.

They say, "when in doubt, zoom out" in regards to the crypto markets, but this is what we should more often do in our lives also, rather than get caught up in the day to day "news" of experience. There is so much noise these days and so much FUD injected into our eyeline, that if we aren't careful, our direction is lead by where we don't want to end up, instead of where we want to be.

Some want to be rich, some happy, some in love and a thousand other things - but what are we each doing to get there, or are we hoping that we will end up there without doing anything with intention at all?

It doesn't matter what the markets are doing.
It does matter what we are doing.

>Rainy, sunny, rainy, sunny, rainy, rainy, rainy.... sunny?

You forgot rainy and sunny.

>But, what kinds of jobs are going to be available for people at that age?

I was just the other day wondering about this with one of my customers and came to the conclusion that even people our age perhaps never get to retire and even if in our old days we couldn't move or communicate well, we would have to work. So it would be like a job in the museum, checking tickets although someone already did that, carrying toilet paper one roll at a time to public toilets and asking for change from people passing by.

I love the foggy photos! Or is it rain steaming in the sunshine. Anyway, really nice!

I got talking with a friend today and I asked what he wanted right now.

I was expecting 'money' to be the answer because everyone wants money right?

But no, his answer wasn't money. He said he wanted good health. So people want different things at different moments.

Being unemployment is one of the worst things that could happen to a person, especially when there are bills to pay.

But surprisingly, many people are okay with it.

Yep. Money is one thing, but without health it makes it hard to enjoy. However, no money and illness is terrible.

You're right. We just have to make a balance between the two, money and health.

>I find it strange in many ways, especially when they think they are "beating the system" whilst living off the government.

This is them fooling themselves indirectly.

As an young person, it is exciting to start from zero, but as we age, something changes. I remember I used to change careers like every 10 years, but now, with all this uncertainty, seens to be a bad move. for the first time, i am in the 12th year of this industry job, and even if i entertain the thought of doing something different, somehow i do not make the first step.
With age came wisdom, they say, and maybe some fear for change.

12 years is an*eternity* for people now. One of my colleagues is feeling long in the tooth after 5! It is crazy. Sometimes it works to change relatively frequently, but these days, I find that it is being seen as far more non-committal than positive.

Definitely,in next 25 yrs there will be no such jobs like today and inflation will too kill our money value what we do saving in the bank for interest.
But,Definitely the skill of writing something good to read ,will pay you lifetime.
and Crypto is the future, no matter whether there is FUD or FOMO.

A lot of people seem to be setting themselves up for failure, as they back the current economy and debt slavery. It is going to be interesting as the split into crypto increases.

##### β€œWhen in doubt, zoom out…”
I think we should all periodically step back far enough to *see the forest, not the trees…*

We are truly frequently caught up in the minutiae of the day, and unaware of the big picture we need to pay attention to.

I for one stopped hating banks and politicians, and focused all my energy on building things for the future.

Multiple projects, multiple streams of income.
I expect some to grow slow, and like you, my main jobs will stay on my main source of income. So it retains most of my focus.

But my dream, full independence retire early, is the reason I labor outside my job.

I want to be free to focus on something meaningful, but that requires financial independence.

So hi hoe hi hie it’s off to work I go…

My other favorite: I owe, I owe, so off to work I goe.

Sorry for the seemingly eclectic splatter of words and points, but I am sure you see the pattern in the spread.

Persevere, get up again, dream again, plan again and execute.

I like to multitask :D But I don't spend much energy engaging with the daily news.

For me, it is the option to have that freedom and be non-reliant on others for income.

I agree, it’s not so much not wanting to work, it’s to make work optional and to broaden my definition of work

I definitely agree with starting from zero. I believe that many people have had this period of the life. For me, I have strated with an intense purpose, and I have moved a lot in 10 years. Still, I will do much more over the coming years.

I have done it a few times for a few different reasons and while it is hard, there is also something empowering about it. Overcoming once, leads to be able to overcome twice.

I really hope you find what you need. Having to scrub floors or something at eighty sounds pretty miserable!

As for zooming out and looking at the bigger picture? If those who could afford to had bought btc with fiat in 2019 after the crash they would be in a good place financially.
