<div class="text-justify"> It has just crossed four in the afternoon here and technically, the weekend has started for most Finns, but I am still finishing off a few tasks, as this week I have been running sessions for my own business as well. The company I work for has no issues with this, as long as what I do doesn't get in the way of the work I do for them, or compete with them directly of course - *there is no issue there. Just a moment ago, I got a call from a friend who happened to be in the neighborhood and asked if it was okay to drop by. We haven't seen each other "in the flesh" for what must be going on almost two years so - *fine by me!* Though my wife thinks differently. I am pretty laid back when it comes to my friends and I never expect that they go out of their way to tidy up before I visit them, as we have all seen the worst of each other over the years anyway - including many sloppy drunk nights. The "lived in" look doesn't phase us. However, my wife isn't an *original member of the band* and she has only known them as the respectable adults they are now and since they aren't "her friends", she still (even after a decade) feels that she has to clean before anyone arrives. This is in there nature though, as she does the same for her family, with "nature" being *conditioning.* I had an interesting conversation with a client about "our nature" today in regards to this, where a lot of the things we might attribute to *the way we are,* are actually the way we have been conditioned to be by our surroundings. This is important to note, because if it "is" us there is the sense that we can't do much about it without great effort, but it is just "what we do at the moment" then we can always do things differently. Change is often hard though, because it means that we have to let go of what we know and welcome in what we don't, and this comes bundled with our sense of loss aversion, where in this case, we fear *losing ourselves.* The funny thing is though, this happens even when we want to change, making it much harder by setting ourselves up for failure and when we do fail, we are even more disappointed, because we really wanted the result. In the end, I know people who have become so disillusioned they just don't try for anything and when they speak about it, they say they don't want it but, there is a bitterness in their voice. My client was talking about this today when I asked her if she felt that she had been held back in her career just because she is a woman, and the answer surprised me a little. She said she had, but the biggest reason wasn't because others didn't give her opportunities, but because she felt that she wasn't able to take them. This didn't surprise me in the sense that I hadn't considered the answer, it is that they were willing to admit it. Many people these days look for an external reason to blame for their lack of opportunity without acknowledging that we are in fact, our own biggest hurdle when it comes to much of our decision-making lives. It is not that we don't have opportunity taken off the table at no fault of our own, but the way we use them as excuses can impact profoundly on our lives. In many ways, this is the half full or half empty approach, where due to our fear of loss and sense of loss, we spend a lot of our energy worried about what we don't have, including opportunities, instead of what we do have available. This means that we are actually lessening our potential ourselves, as we divert energy into a blackhole, instead of into the body of opportunity we can see - with that energy being spent and lost. It is funny isn't it - We lose energy on what we don't have access to because we fear loss. I wonder if instead energy on the opportunities we don't have, we used our resources on the ones we do - would there be a significant difference in outcomes? Again, these would be counterfactuals as you can only take on path at any one time a an individual, but it would be interesting to see across big data if there is a difference in outcomes in very similar populations, based on the decisions they made and perhaps, whether they saw themselves as *affecting the world,* or being *affected by the world.* An internal locus of control where one looks from in to out, or an external where conditions influence from out to in? At least reflecting on our own experiences, environment and our own personal conditions, we might be able to identify some points that are holding us back and perhaps become aware enough to change them slightly. Change has to lead to different, but who knows what opportunities await us *just around the corner?* The other thing I will end on is the concept of the "missed opportunity" because without having experienced it first hand, we don't actually know if we missed anything at all - so why do we feel the loss? Well, that coms down to our expectations and assumptions and as they say, they are rarely going to be met, yet we think that we have mapped out the outcome of what we would have missed, even though it never happened. Talk about counting chickens before they have hatched. My friend will be here any minute and I think I might have timed it perfectly so that when I walk out of the office, the cleaning will already have been done. *A missed opportunity?* Taraz [ Gen1: Hive ] </div>

Oh boy.. Sounds just like us. We hurry around picking the little things up before the unannounced guests arrive. Not like our house resembles a frat house after an all nighter or anything. BUT if the wife gets up to pick up.. so do I or else I'm in the DOG HOUSE! lol. No regrets here over missed opportunities, but I have felt from time to time, a sense of "There's no turning back now". What I mean by that is that maybe I feel like I have devoted too much time and effort to call it quits on something. Nothing major, just incidental things. I did however have a conversation with a younger girl the other day. She had this idea that there was no turning back, and that she had invested too much time in a relationship. Needless to say the relationship is on the rocks and has been for a while. She thinks it's better to push forward than to say "that's it!" One of the things I said to her was if you don't give yourself a chance at change, then you'll never know the opportunity waiting for you just around the corner. You just have to believe in your heart sometimes, and not listen to your head.

>BUT if the wife gets up to pick up.. so do I or else I'm in the DOG HOUSE! lol. "I have a lot of work to do... you know, work from home now and all!" It is interesting these days, as it seems to work on extremes in relationships. Some people will stay through anything under a sunk cost fallacy. Others will leave at the slightest hiccup, as they can't cope with even mild discomfort. well, at least the house is clean :)

The "grass is greener" mindset can sometimes be someone's worst enemy. They are always thinking that opportunities in XYZ sector might be the best thing for them but if they make the jump, sometimes can hate it. At my company now, it seems pretty good so far and there are some good benefits to being here. One thing that is common is people attempting to "boomerang" and work for the company, leave thinking the grass is greener, or there's an opportunity that's better for them elsewhere, and realize that it's awful then come back. I don't know a lot about these groups yet but there are some good things and bad things about many places. My wife and I both try to tidy up the house when even our neighbors hang out with us for a few minutes in the hall to chat. The house is typically a disaster hahah so we have to.

>One thing that is common is people attempting to "boomerang" and work for the company This happens a bit where I work too - but no one leaves on bad terms afaik and are welcomed back afaik too - it is a good place to work - one of the best in the country supposedly. Though, how remote work affects this might change that - since people will generally be less connected. >The house is typically a disaster hahah so we have to. Yeah remote work is a little tricky but one thing is good is that my company is saying office work is voluntary across the company which I think is good. I'd rather have an option to go into an office for a few hours than be required to. Totally off topic, did you get one of the Waka's? Lol. I only know of 1 person that got one.

> I know people who have become so disillusioned they just don't try for anything and when they speak about it, they say they don't want it but, there is a bitterness in their voice. I believe such people fall in the aspect of not knowing how to make or take decision on their own, they live in the shadows of other people who tell them or help them in a certain situations on steps to take which is not suppose to be so but can be helpful though sometimes. What I believe is that they don't want to be blamed if throughly they take that decision on their own because what I know is that their mind will spilt into two whether their actions taken is right or wrong but don't want to fall in the negative part in other to avoid query or blame

I totally agree with you people keep hunting for things they don't have or wished for at the end when they fail they put the blame on another thing instead of them to focus on what they have the opportunity in their present and work towards that.

> Change is often hard though, because it means that we have to let go of what we know and welcome in what we don't, and this comes bundled with our sense of loss aversion, where in this case, we fear losing ourselves. This is an extreme reality. We want change so we have to change a lot. Sometimes we fail and sink into a sea of ββdespair. Very beautifully written.

I have always believed that human beings are the greatest saboteurs of themselves. We are faithful to the beliefs of upbringing and conditioning and so we go through life as you rightly say, lamenting the opportunities we believe lost even if they never existed. I think that basically, in most cases, we miss the opportunities that are at hand, because of the possibility of having to get out of our comfort zone. # Those who do not leave their comfort zone may not lose anything, but they also fail to gain something. It is a subject on which there will always be differences and regrets. In my case, I was raised under the view that I always had to work for a company until I retired, and I did. Along the way, upon reflection, I missed the opportunity to become independent, perhaps because of the fear of leaving the secure, despite the fact that at times, there were bitter moments in that job in which I have just retired. There are always opportunities that present themselves to us and as your client admits, we are not able to take advantage of them, which, of course, produces a bad taste after the fact. # I think we should live more, take advantage of more, time goes fast and when the years of maturity come, one feels it more and thinks about what could have been done differently. However, it is never too late. I realized it even after I retired and now I do different things based on being the owner of my time. As always, I loved reading you, you convey reflection with reality in your words. A hug and happy weekend to you. π€ #

>Those who do not leave their comfort zone may not lose anything, but they also fail to gain something. This is where the investment connection comes in - it is great to pick a winner, but useless if there is no skin in the game. I wonder what it would be like if we were able to act unrestrained or - what would life be if we actually could make the perfect decision in every moment. How much potential do we hold? and... How cute is that gif!! :) Have a great weekend.
