<div class="text-justify"> I am guessing I am not the only one in the world at the moment that wouldn't mind a little bit of a change in direction than where we are seemingly inevitably headed. The next few months are going to be quite the turning point in history perhaps as whichever way the US election result falls, it will likely create a great deal more tension on top of what has already proven a pretty tense year - will the US break and if it does, what about the rest of the world that seems intent on following its lead into the abyss? But the abyss is what is potentially required for the change we might have to go through in order to get past the layers of nonsense we have created in this world. While I am far from naive or ignorant as to why, I do find it incredible that as far as we have come as a species, we still manage to fight over the most irrelevant and arbitrary of things. While I do not think it is a coordinated conspiracy, the incentive to keep the drama in play is very much in the court of those who have the power and benefit the most to do so. At some point, we will have to learn one way or another - *live together* or *mutually assured destruction* are probably the only two cards in the deck at the end of the day. If you were a betting person, which one do you think has the higher odds of realization? At the end of the day, we do not have a great deal of control over much, but we *can affect* components of our own lives and if everyone does a little, a lot can be done. Which I figure is one of the core strengths of decentralization - where we are incentivized to take responsibility and become better players of the game - better versions of ourselves? For me at least, I do believe that I am better for having spent time participating here as it has not only introduced me to new concepts, technologies and opportunities - it has also *drawn me away* from where I was spending far too much of my time earlier on entertainment, social media consumption and all kinds of global attention-seeking irrelevancies. Creating was an outlet in many ways as it not only gave me something better to do, it helped me have something better to feel - the sense that there was a chance that this world still has a chance. As I have mentioned before, "mother earth" doesn't give a damn about us as there is no being at the control, there is no world personality that we are destroying through our pollution - it exists with us, it exists without us - it is *completely* indifferent to our presence. What we are destroying is our possibility to live on this earth as unlike nature that is always something, we can only be something in a narrow band of conditions - change the conditions enough - and we can no longer survive and while we were something, we will forevermore in the future be nothing, unless we can find a way to bend the conditions into a band that we can survive. A change in direction... is it so hard? Why? How come we as a species can be *painfully aware* of our own suffering, yet rather than actually attempt to change the course of our future, we spend the majority of our time, effort and resources fighting to remain the same or worse, repeat the past in an endless cycle where the wheel of time is stuck in a groove, playing a track of misery. Are you sure that what you are *spending your time on* has the value you *believe* it does? What did you generate today? Generation is a funny word, it means to produce as well as a rough grouping of those born in a time period. Both speak of our relationship with the past as the source, the present as an active process and the future, to where we will head. Our genes seem to keep repeating the same patterns over and over and while we might think that it is because we are human, perhaps it is because we are unwilling to let go of the past and see if there is another present we could live that will take us to a different future. We talk about "children being the future" which is true, but that future isn't going to be much different if we encourage them to be just like us - *or worse* - to take even less responsibility over their lives. Will there always be enough *true activists* in the world that will keep us diverging from the past and into a better future, or will we destroy all hope by punishing the different and we as a species will stop generating, become stagnant and unmoving. The dead don't move and if we create a world where we are too scared to diverge, we have ensured our own destruction. We are moving now - the direction is questionable. We walk the path of what we consume, we consume the road of what we produce. Every generation has the opportunity to be better than the last, but each is born from the last and no one wants to be superseded. Taraz [ Gen1: Hive ] </div>

For a long long time we have thought of children as the future. It seems to me our future choices/paths continue to decline. Perhaps we need to re-look at how we see our children. Perhaps it is time to see them as the agents of change, to begin educating them to what real choice is, not just the choices they have foisted off on them from the generations that were unable to be the agents of change. Is the future doomed to be a repeat of the past? I don't think so. The ages of 15-21, they are the years we as people are made. they are the years we look back on most fondly the years that we see where and how much we changed. Does what happened 10 years ago really matter to people? Does what happened when they were between the age of 15 and 21 matter? What music do people still like and enjoy, what movies do they look back on fondly? What events in a persons life really matter. I know the movies that had an effect on my growth, I know the books I read that had an effect, and the music that can still move me, and of the news events surrounding that time. These are our growth years, after 21 we are forced into survival mode, and into a slower growth mode. I remember Watergate and "I am not a crook", I remember G.W. Bush "Read my lips" statement, I view most politicians as crooks. What news events are people in their 30's today going to remember in 30 years, and what events are the 15 year old's today going to remember in 30 years. I will likely not be in the mortal world in 30 years, (I hope I am), but that is how long it is going to be to see the results of 2020. > `At some point, we will have to learn one way or another - live together or mutually assured destruction are probably the only two cards in the deck at the end of the day` We can hope that one day a third or a forth direction forward will be found.

The world we leave is the one they have to live and deal with. Dammit. I've been doing a little 'heavy' reading lately. I saw, but have not purchased a guy that claims there is a Civil War right now in America-it just hasn't gone to guns. Yet. It's not some goofy conspiracy guy, it's a college professor and journalist. Sweet Mother, how could it have come to this? Where that possibility is even available to be considered? I do best when I can focus on the things I can control and just leave the rest. I obviously don't, all the time.

The "civil war" at the moment is not like it once was perhaps. Maybe just as costly. I think however that it is no longer far-fetched that actual war breaks out in some of the areas. I think that we haven't a good memory of the past, so we have forgotten what we should hsve learned. Something about being destined to repeat the same mistakes...

I'm currently reading a very current book from a NYT writer that says a portion of the current problem is nostalgia. Wanting to return to a time when 'things were right'. Like Make America Great Again. Without taking into account the mistakes and misdeeds of the time. Interesting concept. I do hope that fighting does not break out. I fear there would be no protected population....

***We talk about "children being the future" which is true, but that future isn't going to be much different if we encourage them to be just like us*** So true! People don't like to change, that is why change is hard. We cling to ideas not because we believe in them as much as we want to show others that we're in charge. No matter if what we control is wrong. Ego. The entire problems of humanity are around EGO. When we will learn to control ego, we will change. Until then my intuition tells me we will more likely manage to distruct before we will build. A necessary damage for progress and change to happen is suffering for those who can't embrace change naturally, it will be through the force of the inevitable.

Oh you hit the right spot right where it hurts. This is so true. Parents who are often frustrated about their own failures have high demands from kids, making them feel always inferior. A parent with such inferiority complexes will most likely traumatize the child, making him feel he always dissapoints no matter what. Too bad that nobody tells parents how to be a good parent.A lot of them would need therapy to fix themselves before trying to control their kid's life.

Excellent reflection >How come we as a species can be painfully aware of our own suffering, yet rather than actually attempt to change the course of our future, we spend the majority of our time, effort and resources fighting to remain the same or worse, repeat the past in an endless cycle where the wheel of time is stuck in a groove, playing a track of misery. I have asked myelf the same question, especially since March. Not much makes sense given how advanced humanity has been in most areas. Petty individual and group interests rule over masses of people. This, too is worrying >We talk about "children being the future" which is true, but that future isn't going to be much different if we encourage them to be just like us - or worse - to take even less responsibility over their lives. I think that interested parties are making sure that future will be distracted enough on soap-operish triviality and vices as to have any influence on what a minority will continue doing with our societies and resources.

It is. In Venezuela, for instance, in the last years it became customary that on top of a consistent decay in the quality of public education, parents got so involved they ended up doing the school work for their kids. They were the ones meeting for group projects and spliting the tasks to see who did what. I had plenty of ugly arguments when I asked them, what the hell are the kids supposed to do? When is it that they are going to learn and what? At the end of the school years it was pathetic to see parents complaining about their children's grades/assessments, even in extreme cases where kids never attended or did little to no work at all. There was this sense of entitlement, or extreme justification and demands, unfortunatelly shared by most parents these days, at least here.

>Petty individual and group interests rule over masses of people. Identity is an extremely easy target to leverage for control and while we keep complaining of our circumstances, we keep fragmenting ourselves along lines of identity and wonder why we are ineffectual.

>How come we as a species can be painfully aware of our own suffering, yet rather than actually attempt to change the course of our future, we spend the majority of our time, effort and resources fighting to remain the same or worse, repeat the past in an endless cycle where the wheel of time is stuck in a groove, playing a track of misery. Are you sure that what you are spending your time on has the value you believe it does? What did you generate today? We are creatures of habit both individually and as a society. The analytical mind can come up and dissect all sorts of scenarios very quickly. Putting them into practice involves creating new habits and that is always a costly operation in terms of neural re-organizing.

It is a costly operation, but is it more costly than the status quo alternative that will change based on uncontrollable environmental changes anyway. Would Sweden be better off it still drove on the left?

Story of humanity right there. The cultures with sustainable practices survive and thrive; until they don't. I wonder about the Amish. Do they do any sort of philosophical musing? If you've shunned technology; it's not like you're inventing anything. And if everything you need to know is already written down; is there any reason to write books, or even have debates? Of course, if 5G's giving us all cancer, the Amish might have the last laugh. The day humanity finally outgrows the superstition called 'statism' will be a key, pivotal moment in our history. I'd love to live long enough to see it.

I have always questioned the Amish approach, as what happens to a child who "invents" something new from within the community? They must punish thought. The thing with radio waves is, you don't have to use them to be affected by them. Maybe the Amish would be affected less only. I doubt my ability to outlive group stupidity.
