Key Areas: In the process of defining myself I saw a lot of things that I was very good at and others not. Creating work that pays off is one of my talents. Most of the work I do these days is related to that. Guiding others is most of it, so they actually produce more than they earn and are not just a weight on me (and society in general with that attitude...), but I still create new products. At first, I do the work myself, but as soon as the recipe is stabilized and easy to replicate, I pass the torch to someone who is capable of doing that part of work, and not really good at creating recipes. Works great so far. Some major disappointments along the way, as always, but generally a huge benefit to everyone involved.

There was a time I went too far, though. I thought I *had* to out my talents into the service for society. As you can imagine, that did not end well, and I now select fractions of society that I service.

This actually fits really well with the post I wrote yesterday and the quote I shared from that book Let Them.  There's actually a whole chapter pretty much dedicated to how bad of an idea it is to compare yourself to others.  Life isn't fair and working with what you have is the better option than complaining about what you don't or making excuses in this case.

Hey 🤔 my grandpa used to say something similar. Don't think yourself out of work. Farmers gotta be practical above all else. You can philosophize after the crops are in and the animals are fed.

yes.. i wouldn't want to have a house on a volcano slope (or anywhere close to a valcano) and yea.. we should compare things that are of similar level.. but i guess it does make some ppl feel better about things so.. 😉😎✌️

Sometimes being so wise can cause a harm to anyone, when you think that you always go right on everything!
Moreover the comparison is always there in our life separating the best and worst and it's important for making us realise that there is more to do and by that make our current versions even more good!

We do this all the time nowadays. They say at least we're not as bad as X country instead of asking why we can't be as good as our actual peers. It's like settling for a C+ because someone else got an F instead of aiming for the A that's totally achievable.

I enjoyed the post and was really going to try hard to add an intelligent and thoughtful comment, but then I read the existing comments about dumb farmers and carbon footprints and decided that I must have somehow landed in an alternative universe....

I've just eaten a bar of delicious Finnish chocolate...as I appear to be in a bizarre, most random comment competition.



Anyway. Hope you and your family are doing well. No one who makes Raspberry and popping candy chocolate can be all that pessimistic :-)

I have never seen a very intelligent farmer. There is a disproportion between physical strength and intelligence. An intelligent person does not want to use too much force. An unintelligent person can only solve a problem with physical strength.

I don't pollute the environment too much. My carbon footprint is 2-3 tons of CO2. This carbon footprint is absorbed by 2-3 trees in my garden, and I have 30 trees :) Of which 3 are large walnuts. 

Comparing ourselves to the places that are struggling just gives us a pretext to sit back and not push for improvement. It's nearly like a comfort zone for complacency.
