<div class="text-justify"> >What kind of place do you want Hive to be for other users? We often hear and talk about Hive as a community, and even what we want Hive to be. Yet, this is always going to be influenced by our own opinions. It is inescapable - we can't have objective opinions. However, what we can do is maybe change the way we look at what we want for Hive by thinking about what we want it to be for other people on Hive; *old, new and yet to arrive.* This way, we can perhaps reflect and change our own behaviours to better align with what we want *for others.* --- >### Note **There is a Poll below - but add more things into your comments. Good, thoughtful comments will get rewarded. Good, thoughtful posts that continue this conversation can be linked to a good thoughtful comment, and they will get rewarded to. I will try and get some additional support from others with stake to have a read also.** --- > ## Financials *First since this is where many concentrate their attention.* I am oldschool as a Hiver and still believe that the best thing for Hive, is having a community of people who support each other - this includes *financial support.* If a person comes in and earns on Hive, but doesn't leave any powered up to support people like them, then Hive doesn't grow as an economy. What those people are doing are relying on the people who have stake to be effective distributors, but aren't becoming a distribution node themselves. This ultimately leads to a consolidation of resources into fewer hands, creating a wealth gap, because just like in the "real world", if we don't invest into ourselves, others and our communities to be owners and distributors - the rich get richer. I want Hive to be a place where people can earn and benefit in their walking lives from Hive, but also a place that they are willing to invest some of their earnings into so they can reward and empower others to do the same. This way, they are able to increasingly support others here and help more people benefit, without relying on larger and larger stakeholders forever. Not only this - it creates a sink for HIVE, that ultimately will increase the value of HIVE, meaning what each stakeholder distributes is worth more, curation is worth more, and there is more incentive to be part of the Hive community, to both earn from and reward *others.* > # Witnesses *Most people have no idea what witnesses do these days.* And this is largely the witnesses fault. There used to be a time where people would complain about "Hive content" as if it was something negative and inward facing, but in my view, it is a huge positive. Real Hive content (not the "to the moon" shit some people post) gives the opportunity for everyday users to learn about the aspects of Hive that are hidden in the real world - the underlying technologies, how it impacts on different mechanisms, how users interact with each other and projects, and all other aspects that are Hive-related. This conversation *is vital* for a healthy community, otherwise Hive replicates the model of the real world, where decisions are proxied to governments, and the average person has *no idea* what is actually happening. I wish that witnesses would step up and see that part of their role is to be part of the community, not just make sure that their servers are running and the price feed is updated. Some are devs, some are community leaders, some are complete unknowns - but it would be great for the majority of the users if witnesses drove real conversations that included people. Not to do what the people want, but to get people interested and excited about possibilities and what is in development, and how it might affect them and the communities they value. This would go a long way to engaging many users. > # Content *Content is what makes Hive unique.* But, it has to be *unique content.* For instance, Hive could essentially just be something that records all of the transactions on the Bitcoin network, just in case it fails. However, where is the value in that? Similarly, if the content on Hive is AI-generated, plagiarised, spun, or available with a simple search from any number of other sources - where is the value? Hive shouldn't be an information aggregator, it should be a place where real people interact with each other and share and learn from each other. It should be personal. Especially today, the internet is filled with a whole host of cookie-cutter content driven by algorithms that encourage people to create what they are incentivised to create. While there are "people" involved, the majority is not a realistic view of life experience, nor does it create much public discourse that leads to positive change. The world is a fucking mess and it is only going to get worse *for us* if we keep leaving everything up to politicians and billionaires. The content of our lives, matters. > # People *Luck last?* Yeah, I want Hive to be a welcoming place for users, but just like I don't want my city streets to be filled with drug addicts, rapists, and people who drive like crazy and run over children - I don't want the Hive community to be supportive of *all people regardless of how they behave.* If we want a strong, healthy community, we have to build a culture that rewards healthy behaviours, and punishes unhealthy behaviours. Sure, there might be a lot of nuance and caveat mixed into the personal opinions, but in general, *it should be pretty bloody easy* to understand what is decent behaviour, and what is being a dick. > The first rule of Hive: *Don't be a dick.* Rule of thumb: If you are scared to be caught for your behaviour - *you are probably being a dick.* And we shouldn't be scared to call people out if we think they are being a dick. We have an immutable way through comments and maybe they have a really good reason for their particular behaviour, maybe not. But, this is a community much like a tribe, where everyone's behaviour impacts in some way on the entire community, so if you think someone is acting against the best interest of the community, speak up. Yep, it might create some drama - but *that is okay.* Because not asking, not speaking up, not creating drama, tends to lead to *much more violent drama.* > Look at the world today. I want the average users of Hive to have the experience of getting value, and *giving value* to others, because both feel good. I want them to be able to improve their local lives, as well as be an active part of improving the local lives of others around the world. I want the average user to feel that they are part of making the community and the world a better place by taking some responsibility for their actions, outcomes and the wellbeing of others. I want the average user to feel that they are making their lives, and the lives of others better - to the point that they can reflect on it and objectively prove that this is the case. --- There is a lot of "I wants" in there, because I can't speak for others. But, I really hope that Hive can be a place that improves the wellbeing of users by helping them recognise that they have power and influence over the wellbeing of others. Society isn't an individual endeavour - we are all in it together and as such, can all play a role in the improvement, or the degradation of wellbeing and experience. Taraz [ Gen1: Hive ] </div>

Your vision for Hive is truly inspiring, as all your post usually give lots of ideas, and I appreciate your emphasis on community, support, and personal responsibility. I completely agree that Hive should be a place where users not only learn about technology but also engage meaningfully with one another and invest in the communityβs growth. Time we put here could reflect on Hive grow if we are learning and growing together. The idea of fostering a culture where users feel empowered to contribute financially and socially is crucial. Itβs all about creating a sustainable ecosystem where everyone plays a role in supporting each other. As you mentioned, the value of unique, personal content cannot be overstatedβit's what sets Hive apart from other platforms. Also, your point about the role of witnesses is important. They should be more than just technical operators; they can be catalysts for discussions that ignite curiosity and innovation within the community. Finally, I wholeheartedly agree with your call for a culture that promotes positive behaviors. Encouraging accountability and open dialogue can help maintain a healthy environment where everyone feels valued. Letβs continue to push for a Hive that fosters learning, growth, and genuine connections among users! Provoking post like yours make grow our Web3. Have a good one!

> I wish that witnesses would step up and see that part of their role is to be part of the community, not just make sure that their servers are running and the price feed is updated. Some are devs, some are community leaders, some are complete unknowns - but it would be great for the majority of the users if witnesses drove real conversations that included people. Some time ago I made similar remarks and earned the downvote of powerful people who knocked my reputation from 64 to 42 in minutes. Since then, I am more reserved, every time I open my mouth someone feels offended⦠I support the initiative that users make communities, but not closed voting trailers for those who are part of those communities, not giving a chance to other users to be part of the feast, because they do not belong to the sect. No more being part of HIVE, we are part of a small world, a symbiotic mechanism, not a parasitic one. Certainly, -I don't know the numbers-, there are users in HIVE who are only there to make money, they don't care about the chain or the mechanisms -maybe they don't understand it at all-. I would like to know who of those users have bought hives to stake them, but using their own funds in the bank; I have done so. ALL my publications stake the profits in HP, I have no need to do it the other way around. I support your thesis, I want HIVE to be a place where I can find unique things, developments of topics not altered like in other social networks (influenced by AI). I want to meet people who show themselves as they are, without masks, not users who disguise words, make them up to look like something they are not. I want to make friends who will show me the world, places I may never visit.

So, it looks like, as in real life, there group doing as Mafia? I respects all believes and points of view; but some aspects going to extreme is really no sense if we want a place to grow up. For example, if you do a post mentioning of focussing on STEEM, you will be seen as a traitor, if you self-vote as new-come you don't think it is something bad, you get critizesed. Sometimes I think is just like in real life...

>Since then, I am more reserved, every time I open my mouth someone feels offended⦠I thought you didn't care what people thought? Just go with it - the reputation is what it is - most people don't care what people say, as long as it is open and coming from a place of honesty. > I want to meet people who show themselves as they are, without masks, not users who disguise words, make them up to look like something they are not. This is one of the strange ironies - people, even the hidden ones, tend to be a bit more real on Hive, because that is what gets rewarded consistently. Of course, there are plenty who try to game the system - but that is what downvotes are for.

Now, that's a funny poll π I'm not into the financials (although it's great to found my Splinterlands exploration), just doing what I was told would be the best balance for HIVE and me. Nor do I know what witnesses do - but you got me curious, will look that up. I'm on the content side. It's great to have a place where many opinions can be shared, where true exchange of arguments is still possible. All other media has become biased, or algorithms keep us in a certain bubble. It's also a great place to grow, to post thoughts and feelings, get feedback if needed, or support if needed, or whatever. It's a very stimulating place, very exciting, so many thoughts, so many questions, so many answers. Every time I read a post, I get ideas for writing my own, or just things that spin around in my head and finally have an impact on the way I look at my real life. I can try myself out here, experiment, play around, and I can be myself. I cherish that a lot about HIVE.

I think in general HIVE as a whole needs to be a little more forgiving. I'm not saying we should allow abuse or things like that, but I think as a censorship resistant platform people need to be a little more open minded about what is acceptable and what isn't. We need to allow a space for short form content and long form content. We need space to foster creativity and encourage building your account. It feels like we might be on the verge of some downvote wars again and that isn't good for anyone on the platform.

Having gone through all that has been written on this post, and thoughtfully select 7 out of the poll. I would like to say that people hear about and join Hive from different places and for different reasons. Some were introduced to Hive because of some skills and talents they process which made the person who invited them see the value they could add to the community and the way they could be rewarded for it. Most times these people come into the the community to contribute, having in mind that they finally have a place where their values would truly be seen. Most times these people don't constitute a nuisance. Some heard about Hive while discussing financial issues with people, and got introduced to Hive. These people come in with the mindset of receiving and really not growing. Even though they may find communities to fit in, they withdraw their rewards as soon as they get it. Some others joined because they came across one of the posts in Hive, either through links or on twitter, they found it as a place to grow, make enquiries and join. The way these people would behave with their rewards is different, although over time and through reading more posts like this, people's perspectives can change while they start to see reasons to invest and grow. That is where education comes in like you mentioned, the witnesses and big dogs should get more educational posts like this to the users making them to see Hive's core values and to Aline with the mission of a long time wealth and not eat up all their rewards as they get them

I have written about this before - where how people are introduced and *who* introduces them matters. They learn from example. I came in without knowing anyone here, so learned by trial and error - didn't know about crypto at all - just needed money. Found pretty quickly that there was little chance of making money, but there was a great opportunity to write and interact. Then I learned about the rest of it, and started investing :) I will come and read your other post later. Thanks for making the effort.

Sometimes it's good not to have it easy from the start, it helps build strength and in-depth understanding. For those who were introduced by someone who is ready to curate their everyday posts. They really won't see the need to build on their own and if eventually they stop getting those curations as they used to, that's when the strength of their resilience would be tested

For me Hive is a place of hope and acceptance. My safe and comfortable corner of the world. A digital home where what I do is appreciated and rewarded. I would like it to be such place for others as well.

I can't seem to find the poll haha I did enjoy your insights about Hive though. As a new member, there is still so much I do not know about how everything works in the ecosystem. That being said, I have noticed that there are many passionate people from all over the world writing about the things in their lives that fascinate them. I find myself exposed to information and viewpoints that I would normally not come across on a traditional "social media" platform, where everyone is confined to their individualized echo chambers. I feel blessed to have found this place, and I hope the community can continue to grow and attract new members who are genuine about creating value for themselves and others.

Sorry to be a pain π ... Was wondering if you could possibly amend your poll title to "Hive for others as a place" so you can remove "as a place" from each of the options? I'm on mobile ( like many others I imagine) and can't see the full options. I clicked on one to see of it would open up but ended up voting for it.

It doesn't really matter much what we want it to be. When other users come, their interactions will change Hive. It will become something that either retains or loses those new users. Without knowing exactly what the new users want, it is impossible to plan according to their wants.

I want it to be an inaccessible crucible of fire that discourages new users, which is to say... I like it exactly the way it is. Honestly, I didn't read your post, I just assumed it was another post basically asking "How can we make Hive mainstream?", and that was the question I was answering with my reply. I have long thought that Hive should remain unconcerned with new users, and instead spend efforts on making people better understand what it is. The 'mainstream' population does not want this kind of ownership, and the responsibility that comes with it. The people who *do* want that will come here on their own, once they know it exists.

I picked these 3: As a place to feel connected to others - because it's pretty nice to get to know people from all over the world virtually! As a place they can participate in the community - because it's a different kind of social media! As a place they can improve - because there's a lot of stuff to learn, and I remembered learning how to do thumbnails for my posts as well!

> because there's a lot of stuff to learn, and I remembered learning how to do thumbnails for my posts as well! I think this is actually one of the cool things about Hive - it takes some learning, and not everything is just packaged and ready to go. People have to upskill themselves a little, and in the process, learn about economics and community.

The problems with many user on hive is that they look for instant reward, rather than spending time and adding value to the ecosystems, they want the tides to move in their favour from the word go. When they sse it is not happening they feel rejected. Adding value and then expecting reward does make sense. There are users who are here for more than 6 or 7 years does getting better rewards because of the community set up and cresting their identiy and instant compairing with them without a thought is foolish things to do.

patience does play a significant role...work in a hurry is for the devil. I assume if they look #hive as just another social media platform, like fb or instagram keeping the reward factor away, might help them to sustain and also getting the reward in some time.

I think Hive can be a different experience for various people. Some of us may have fixed ideas of what it could/should be, but the platform itself doesn't care about that and we should be wary of chasing away those who we think don't fit. The wider internet is buzzing with memes and short content rather than blogs. I think we can have both and the various short-form options make that possible. We have options to deal with what we consider over-rewarded, but they need to be used with care. Each person who feels driven out will spread bad vibes about Hive. I think that a Hive with millions of active users would be a different place, but I wonder if that will ever happen after waiting years for it. > Don't be a dick. Yeah, that.

You speak a lot of truth about what Hive should be. For me, i think Hive should be a place where people genuinely connect, support each other, and grow together, not just financially, but as a real community. The part about creating unique content and being responsible with our behaviour really hit home. I also agree that we need more people who are willing to invest, not just earn and leave. And yes, sometimes all it takes is a simple rule: donβt be a dick. That alone can make a huge difference.
